Last question on this boring subject I promise, but does anyone use a surge protector between the mains and the trickle charger ?

Last thing you need is power surge sending super volts into the boot socket and frying something, although I'd hope that the charger would blowup before that happened.

Might sound extreme but a colleagues house got hit by lightning about a year ago, it destroyed every single thing that was plugged in.

Another trickle charger question, rather than start a new thread i thought i'd ask here.

I have bought the CTEK MXS 5.0, and the cigarette adapter. Can I run the RECOND mode to refresh the battery a little whilst being attached via the boot cigarette socket? I wouldnt want to damage something using this cycle not directly connected to the battery.

Cheers

I have the same CTek charger (with the extended cable) and just leave it in “car” mode (2nd light).

It remembers the mode if you have a power cut which is handy.

Gibbon , short answer is yes you can but read the CTEK instruction manual first - I vaguely recall that its recommended not to recond too often.
Ry , I use a surge protector where the battery conditioners are connected on a semi permanent basis until the cars are used but dont bother when I charge other cars occasionally.

Cool, i did note that comment in the instructions, I wont do it every time of course, just for the first cycle i thought it wouldnt be a bad starting point, as long as this wont cause any damage.

To be honest for the first cycle I would just use the usual non cold mode ie the second mode light next to the motorbike one.
