My dipped beam has died and a bit of googling says the Ballast module is the most likely suspect. However that is faily inaccessible so I fancy changing the HID Lamp first. These items are apparently lifed at 2500 hours. There is also a huge range of prices for this bulb; from under a tenner to £140! I quite fancy having a go at these cheapies on ebay:

I think the type is D1S. Does anybody know what the standard colour (temperature) is? I'd guess ~6000K.

Swap the existing bulb to the other side. If it's still working it's not the bulb thumbup

I believe oem is usually nearer 4500k to answer your question.

if you want to try cheapies ...yeaky and cnlight work okay , 4300 should be standard output , might be best to fit a pair if you want them to match

Thanks for your replies. It seems that higher temperature equals more blue in colour.
As my main requirement is to see where I'm going at night, and the human eye is most sensitive to yellow, I've ordered a pair of these: 4300K

I have just replaced the HID bulb on my daily driver Audi Q5 and closest match to OE is 4300k (according to my research on google).
