Headlight Condensation
Discussion
I jumped the gun..... Sunday was a fabulous sunny day, I thought it could be the start of our summer, so I popped the venting kit fuse out to save the fans running over the summer months, big mistake, Monday it poured down, drove out to some friends, got out, ooops, both headlights full of mist/condensation, lucky I had put the fuse in the door pocket so I fitted it, fans came on and by the time I came back out to leave, both lights cleared.
Moral of this story, don’t trust the British weather.

I have the venting kit, just havnt got around to fitting it yet, a job over summer
If only they did something for the rear light units. My original red set failed MOT due to water ingress, dealer had a offer on clear units at the time so fit a new pair of those for £1500, now 3 years later they are getting moisture in them too

Hi All,
just a “heads up” my mate has bought a DB9 kit from AM Upgrades, they have been running a special offer on all the venting kits which includes a 3 year warranty at no extra cost (Worth I think about 40 or 50 quid) but he thinks it will end in June, worth a look.
Mine stopped working after about a 2 years - I eventually traced it to a poor earth .... sorted now . just a “heads up” my mate has bought a DB9 kit from AM Upgrades, they have been running a special offer on all the venting kits which includes a 3 year warranty at no extra cost (Worth I think about 40 or 50 quid) but he thinks it will end in June, worth a look.

Just had the head light modification installed. £500 all in. Aston service Dorset. Basically the kit comprises of a stat sensor which activates a small PC like fan. One for each headlight. There’s a drain off pipe. Two hour job. Cleared mine instantly. And keeps them clear. Good investment. Better than Aston rip off price of £1800 each?.
Well worth fitting.Dave Aston said:

Well worth fitting.Hi All,
I stopped off at the Roadchef Sandbach services (UK) today, there was a bunch of Astons (DB9 and Vantages), about 9 of them, probably a meet, I had a quick look at them, all but one had misted lights, some really bad, the one which was all clear, I lent down near to one of the headlights and I could hear a fan, I can not believe the others haven’t done the same, this time of year is horrendous, I use my Aston all year complete with clear head lights, if you haven’t got a kit, ask your partner to buy you one for Christmas, good luck all and if I don’t post a message, Merry Christmas.

Why has no one made fans for the rear lights? I've the clear type but still a bit of condensation, and the gore Tex patch thing didn't work either. They still work fine, but wonder how long for. I may sell them and buy new, if the numbers stack up. Anyone got any experience here?
That’s a good question. Could be worth dropping Ian an email. He supplies the front venting kit so may know of another solution, or perhaps you may prompt him in to developing one. amupgrades@gmail.com

I had new clear rear lights supplied by the dealer to replace my failed units. 18 months later I could see some mild condensation in the new ones....that are now out of warranty. It must be a manufacturing fault, if aftermarket vendors can repair and re-seal the light units successfully, they obviously are not sealed correctly in the first place.
Thankfully the vent kit is doing its job just great on the fronts......

One of the first upgrades I did to mine after noticing misting not long after buying the car. Never had it since, mine has been fitted for nearly 3 years now.
Hi, just like you, the venting system sorted the headlight problems and it is so nice to have brighter head lights at night, a must have item.I'll drop him a message, although if it was possible I'm sure he would have made one by now.
At my last service at amperformance in Macclesfield I was told that there isn't anyone who can reliably refurb and reseal these rear units. Stands to reason, or we'd all have perfect lights by now I guess.

Yes, this is true, clear and brighter in the evening is a revelation, my lights were always misting up and you could really tell when driving at night and sometimes on some cold/wet days, I might have to park outside for the evening and the following morning they would still be misted up, imagine the damage the moisture would cause to the electronics/LED’s, so yes you are right, “a must have item”.Dave Aston said:

Hi and yes you are so right, my Aston about 5 years ago failed the MOT due to fogged headlights but not anymore.Hi all, sad news I have just sold my Vantage, good news I have just bought a newer Vantage and even better news, I have been able to remove my venting kit and it is ready to fit to my new Vantage when I pick it up next week. The new car had heavy headlight condensation so I said to the seller I could sort a venting kit and fit it myself, I got an extra £400 off (and the venting kit hasn’t cost me anything), Win Win all round.
