I am a little surprise here I thought that the 4.7 started in 09 ?? I see the wheels are from Sports Pack which also started in 09 ?? Or did the 4.7 started in 08 in the UK, never heard of one before now...

We are the fountain of useless knowledge here.

The 4.7 Vantage was announced by AML in about May 2008. Somewhere I have the exact press release date.
The AML model years have traditionally run from September each year, so customer deliveries of the 4.7 began in September 2008 (ie. Model Year 2009).
A few 4.7 cars were in use before September, and a contributor here has one (petop).

It was the time of the debt boom crisis, so some existing orders for 4.3s were cancelled. That is why you sometimes see a summer 2009 4.3 (ie MY 2008).

I am not certain about this, but it is possible that the Sport Pack wheels first appeared earlier than MY2009, on one of the 4.3 special editions. Perhaps someone can clarify that.

I expect that you know, the original body design continued on the 4.7, until the MY2012.25 changes.

£36k for a 4.7 is a bargain, what's the mileage? (or have I read this wrong)

I've got a 4.7 Sport Pack which was registered at the start of June 2008

It was discussed on another thread - a few things kept the price down: 55k miles, iron ore interior and sportshift, but it sounded well looked after and looked like a total bargain... it sold very quickly.

Pretty sure they made their debut as part of the N400 car, which was, of course, based on the 4.3 Vantage.

Still has to be a great buy at that price.

Thanks Jon39, I knew that summer 2008 was not a very good year in the UK for the economy as very few Aston Martin were sold and like you said some also canceled. I currently own a 2009 Vantage 6sp manual with Sport Pack and what I like the most is the original design with all the upgraded stuff while retaining the exhaust system (twin cats vs quad cats). I don't believe that any of those 2008 Vantage 4.7 made it across to North America so they might only exist in the UK, as for the wheels you might be right I do recall seeing some on a N400 which was a 4.3. Don't sell yourself short knowledge is a powerful thing, thanks you very much.

Great collective advice and help as always, OP - I think you need to spend time with any new car in order get "in tune" with the way it works. The XK is a great comfortable GT, but it isn’t the sort of car you would take out for a B road blast on a Sunday. The Vantage may not be an out & out road racer but it is a good drivers car with great steering feel and flow, so the B road will beckon and open up a different world of enjoyment compared to the XK, you will find the XK starts to feel "wobbly and inprecise" by comparison, but of course it has its own strengths - being a good comfortable long distance GT.

If you draw a line with a GT3RS at one end as focussed road racer and Merc SL/ Jag XK’s at the other end as comfortable GT’s the Vantage would sit nicely left of centre, the DB9 would be right of centre. If you have the Sports Pack this takes the Vantage further towards the left, more dynamic and involving but the ride is also a bit harsher (check with the dealer for your cars spec). You need to live with it for a few months to see how you bond with the set-up.

The Sportshift system is a bit quirky and needs time to learn, always use the paddles, try not to change gear while on the accelerator, unless you are using flat-out changes in hypershift. Once you get used to it you’ll find the fast changes and superb blips on downchanges addictive to balance moments of frustration! wink

As the guys have said the N400 (Sept 07- 08MY) was the first Vantage with Sports Suspension and the 4.7 was officially launched in July 08, (obviously some were built prior to the official unveiling, press release was May 08) but all should be 09MY+, which means the 10th digit of your VIN would be a..... 9 ........ Superb looking car by the way smile

I have a MY2009 4.7 Vantage and it was registered on 1st June 2008 so must have been one of the first on the road if it was announced in May 2008

As previously mentioned I have a early Ex Aston Martin owned KX car. Registered 1st June 2008 so again one of the early ones. This remained in Aston ownership for a fair bit until sold on to 2nd owner before me.

It took me quite a while to actually enjoy mine. I I had to alter my driving style, they certainly like to be revved, so you do not ride on a wave of torque. You can really push them hard and the handling is fantastic and very neutral. Get the geo done as this can be the biggest improvement if it hasn't been done in a while. Michelin PSS tyres also run much better on poor road surfaces, or any surfaces!, the bridgestones are not great at all.

Think tyres are what are holding mine back now. Still feel comfortable/safe on any given road when “making progress” at 10 mph faster in the 911 than the Vantage!

Hi Phib, getting to grips with the car at this stage. Initally i thought the ride was quite harsh, checked tyre pressure and all 4 wheels were at over 40psi. Set pressure back to normal and now ride is way better. Overall happy and looking foreward to using it over the summer.

Ray

what do you mean "normal" tyre pressures? 32? 34? or higher

I run mine at 38 but they are 30 & 35 profile tyres not 35 & 40 profile

I thought the recommendation (set cold) was 33psi front, 36psi rear. They'll have a chunk more pressure in them once they warm up. That's on the OEM Bridgestones at least - if you're running the sexy new P4S it might be different.

Tyres are oem bridgestones. All 4 were over 40 psi when stone cold so would have been higher when warmed up. Set them to 34 front 36 back and it made a noticeable difference to the way the car drove.
