I got that combination a bit wrong. Mine's a 56 plate - so early seats and £500+ road tax! frown

Cheaper VED is before March 06, later seats are late 06, so 07MY cars. wink

From a financial point of view, are these holding their money or dropping still?
They've not dropped at all in the 2-2½ years I've been watching prices. Past performance is not indicative of future results etc.....

I'm talking entry level cars here though, £30k-ish, which are definitely going to be high miles and/or weird spec. I'd assume these are the most stable though, much newer cars must still depreciate a bit ??

So Sifocus - how was your shopping trip this weekend? - or did the bad weather stop play?

I have read this thread with some considerable interest, I too am a long term TVR owner - current fleet Griff 500 and a Taimar. I have been seriously toying with the idea of getting an V8V too. It's nice and reassuring to read that so many of you have had, and in some cases still have TVRs. It seem a natural step up to me.

I look forward to being part of the Aston community although I'm gonna find it hard to part with the Griffith, but then there's my lovely Taimar, not sure I could sell that one either! I'm trying to find ways of keeping them all - not sure I'm gonna get that one past HQ though smile

I think the first part of the syllabus for Advanced Man Maths goes along the lines of “don’t tell her in advance, easier to ask for forgiveness than permission” smile

Hi all. I ventured out on Sunday to 3 places. Put my best clobber on and hid my Range Rover sport around the corner at every garage. Didn’t want them to be scared off with a new Range Rover sport to part ex and they think I’d be in negative equity. First stop was the car shop. Have a nice silver one with low miles. I got ignored, they couldn’t tell me what they’d do about a warranty, the 2 missing services and couldn’t start it up for me as the keys are kept off site to stop it going missing. Mmm, leave that one then. Rang a specialist on the Friday local to me and he was going to ring me back to make an appointment. Still waiting. Went to Wilmslow Stratstone and the car was locked away in the compound. My fault for not making an appointment but I wanted to surprise them with my visit. I asked for some potential finance figures (not sure which way to go) and was told he was not FCa accredited. Fare enough, I’ll speak with the business manager. sorry not in on Sundays. Ok a sales manager? Sorry not in on sundays. He asked if I could come back in the week but I work for a living. I asked if I could come back this weekend but he has that weekend off. Mmmm I leave it then! Absolutely shocking experience. Not one has rang me or emailed me since. I didn’t tell any of them that I am in the trade (brand manager for Land Rover), so this was interesting to see. It’s put me back not forward and I was hoping to have moved forward by now. Really shocked :-(. I’m at a meeting in Loughborough on Monday so I’m going to venture to the midlands beforehand and hopefully see a couple before my meeting. :-)

As you're "in the trade" were you really surprised that the finance guys are allowed to have Sundays off? What about your plan of just turning up without a phonecall to "surprise them"? Is that something you welcome in the trade?

You did make it rather difficult for yourself. Phone them up and make an appointment like a real person.

This topic wasn’t started for me to rant and call people out. I genuinely wanted help buying a vantage. However this weekend was an eye opener that I wanted to share. A real person? 70% of customers just turn up. If you make an appointment the sales person knows ‘you are hot’. I didn’t mind the car not being at Stratstone ready to view. I mentioned this in my comment that was my own fault. What I didn’t like was a lack of service when I did speak with someone and no-one contacting me as promised afterwards. Yes I was surprised that no manager was in on a Sunday. I’ve worked at VW, Audi, Jaguar and Land Rover and at least one manager was always in. Every retailer should have a manager in at the weekend as this is when you get the most footfall and enquiries. My management team have always worked every other weekend so there was always cover to discuss deals, finance, complaints etc. It’s a retail job. You’d be surprised if there were no managers at any other shop wouldn’t you. M&S, Curry’s, John Lewis etc etc. These days the manager controls the deals in the background. Not much point opening if they’re not in.

Not really surprised you had 'issues' shopping on a Sunday, if any of my local specialists are anything to go by.
The Main Dealer doesn't even open on a Sunday, the above mentioned Parkway Cars would only be there by appointment, and another local top end specialist doesn't open at all at the weekend except by appointment. rolleyes
I guess they just figure if you are buying a luxury item you probably aren't constrained by the tedium of 9-5 and can get out of work anytime you want. scratchchin

Don’t be put off, generally the sales experience is pretty good, special even, but A.M. dealers are small operations with limited stock. Just purchased an Evoque for the other half and the local LR dealer is massive by comparison. They still didn’t have the model/colour/spec we wanted. Do you know Kim Palmer in the press office - top guy and ex A.M.?

Anyway the reason for the post is to ask - What is your budget Simon?

If you believe the dealers on here ,they make so little money selling used cars they have to flip burgers on Sundays ...
I made an appointment with McGurks , said I’d like a test drive , turned up and drove a 4.3 . I had no intention of buying during that visit . Indeed bought private but wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them . What about the ones that some of the AM dealers are selling ?

Same with Lamborghini Manchester - not open on a Sunday. But as said, chances are most buyers work for themselves or at a level whereby Mon-Fri 9-5 is in the minority.
