I know they want to attract new market segment of buyers, but they need to be careful. Many buy Aston’s because they offer understated style and exude class.

Once they appeal to the ‘look at me I’m rich tt’ brigade, then many will not want to be associated with the brand.

Fine balancing act I’m sure.

I agree, spot on Phil. That is a very important point.

For a billionaire, probably of little consequence but for the less wealthy, can you imagine spending a quarter of a million pounds for a DBSS Sherbert Lemon, then driving along the road and people look thinking you are a plonker. smile

Like many AM owners, I enjoy owning my car and particularly the understated aspect. It is not regarded as a showy statement of wealth, and the cars and the Company are demonstrably admired by many people, not only sports car enthusiasts.

I would not even dream of owning a Lamborghini, or a modern Ferrari. Brilliant cars, but wrong image for me.

........................

As as been mentioned by others on here, I think some of the recent eye catching marketing statements and actions (Lime Essence perhaps) must be connected with the anticipated IPO. The sellers obviously want to try to achieve the highest price. Some of the Company references have amused me. Value as a consumer luxury products manufacturer, not as a car manufacturer. Possible valuation per share similar to Ferrari.

It is getting quite alot of hate for the colour scheme, which I do understand is not what Aston's are traditionally about but who are we to say that it shouldnt be an option?
The whole point of these cars is that they are personal to you the buyer, so if you like it and spend your hard earned cash on it then who cares what others think? I really dont think anyone that buys it in that colour is going to worry about other peoples opinions, if they did they would just get a 'normal' colour that blends in with everything else.

Of course some of us love it and some hate it, thats the whole beauty of being a petrolhead - we can all debate about what we think is great and what we think is ugly

Jesus Christ people, it’s ONE CAR.

What the hell does it matter? It’s one car designed to show off the car in AM’s new shocking colour that gets attention. It’s marketinng, PR, nothing more. How is that so hard to grasp?

Red DBS, grey DBS, white DBS everyone jizzed their pants and waxed lyrical about how it’s the second coming of David Brown blah blah blah.

One shot of a Lime Essence car and IT’S THE END OF THE WORLD OMG ASTON IS GOING TO FAIL.

Please get a grip.

And look how the views have changed on new Vantage now that we are seeing more traditional colours.

The choice of launch colours is another area where Aston are entering a brave new world. At its core, existing owners are (for the most part), quite reserved and prefer understated design, styling and colour schemes. Owners that are new to the brand, or looking to move to it from something German or Italian, might well be more overt in their preferences of colour.

We all have different tastes, and something like Lime Essence is a colour that certainly turns heads and makes a statement. When launching a new model that isn't aimed purely at your existing customer base, a bold strategy is needed - because to put it bluntly, there's a view held by some that Astons only come in a shade of grey and silver. If they wanted to just retain 'us' - the existing owners who love the heritage, understated elegance and styling of the cars, and aren't mad about the luminous end of paint spectrum, then you could be sure that the Vantage would have been launched in a silver of some sort, and would be tastefully specced, understated and make for a less obvious transition between old and new.

As noted above, it's a marketing ploy, and nothing more - it's not done to deliberately alienate or wind up existing customers. The DBSS, the Vantage and the DB11, can be had in any colour the mind can muster, and as we've seen with the Vantage, plenty of well specced, tasteful ones are now appearing, and it's having a positive change for many, making the design language become more accepted with each example.

Nothing wrong with bright colours - I much prefer them to greys/blacks, etc. It's just that this yellow doesn't do the car any favours imho.
I suppose it's getting it some publicity (on this forum at least).

The drag racing car looks great Jon, and I think the colour is perfect for the vehicle.

This DBSS topic slowed recently, to only a trickle of contributions.
Mention of the Lime Essence DBSS has spiced-up smile the topic, and we are back up into 3rd gear again.

I'm not sure which dealership the lime essence example appeared at - the one at Bristol earlier this week was the achingly beautiful Zaffre Blue one. Still gutted I didn't find time to go and see it. The new colour options are quite interesting - Xenon grey is intriguing, and Scintilla Silver might do the trick for a more understated look (I think Scintilla would look fantastic on the Vantage).

Cheers Nick. For some reason that photo looks a little washed out.

Here is a better picture of scintilla in the sun light. The fleck is amazing.

Well.... I've been thinking about a DBS... I did a configuratior to make the yellow one but the colour in the upper picture sets the car off well too. Does anyone know what colour the top DBS is?

On my screen It looks a matt paint finish.

Easy to respray, but don't even think about polishing.
