Sorry for my ignorance but I've never driven a car with CarPlay. How do you control it given that you're not allowed to touch your phone whilst driving? Is it all via Siri or does it work via the centre console toggle switch, back button etc.? Or is the screen perhaps replaced with a touchscreen?

We will still have a mobile installation service but we will group visits together to minimise travelling too much, so that may take a little longer to arrange visits. We will also be able to offer a collection and delivery service or drop off at the train station or take into Cheltenham for shopping for the time we have your car. We also have enough space to store a number of cars should the need arise.

All the best,

James
I'm sure Amsterdam needs another James visit once you get the product finalized wink

I massively appreciate the time and effort put into these products and it’s chaos like James that help keep these older cars relevant and help all of us to keep enjoying them so good on you!

If we are talking about social media (including this format) then why not put it to good use and create some sort of group buy to help get an idea of interest and have a more coordinated pricing structure derived from that.

I’d be interested in a price (components only no fitting, I’d like to think I can sort that myself 😂😂)

This is a good point. My understanding of CarPlay is that it requires a touch screen?

Nope, touch screen not utilised. I’m sure James will explain how his offering works.

On my Audi centre toggle used and on the Vanquish dash toggle. Siri used for messaging and the like.

No idea if it's the same sort of thing, but the guys in Maserati circles have done something that looks similar:

Yes, that's a really good solution and brings an elegant cabin up to date without making it look like a messy after-market job. If James and Aston Installations are heading towards a similar thing that will be fantastic. I await with interest.

James - good luck!

I have turned my Apple Car play off on my Vanq S. Mainly because it doesn't yet support Waze. When you are listening to say, a podcast, and you do something on the car's screen, it dumps you off Waze on the phone. It sounds good that the next iOS will allow access to Waze.

Thank you to everyone that has shown interest in our new project.

As Nick says, it is new and we are still proving it. Thanks to social media and Humphrey, we now have an idea that it IS worth developing further and getting it absolutely right. Along with a few other ideas we are working on. Apologies to all of those people who have sent an email into us, I will get back to you personally, but I have spent much of today taking a V8 to pieces.

Installations will be taking place at our new premises in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire. 5 minutes from Junction 9 of the M5, the other reason for us being slightly busy at the moment, getting this sorted. As soon as I am happy with the kit I will add it to this thread and update our FB page, Website, twitter etc. I will also write to those that have sent emails in.

Cost, good question. As Nick says, if only 3 orders come in, it's not worth us taking the time to work on it. We still have some finessing to do on it and testing to ensure it is of the quality we want. I would put a ball park figure on it of £949 inc VAT, fitted.

I hope there will also be an Android version as well in the near future.

Please understand we are business owners, developers, installers and we also have a families. Sometimes we can't always respond as quickly as we would like to enquiries and threads. This is one of the reasons for coming off the road a little and having fixed premises. It will allow us more time to install kit and develop more ideas rather than spending hours stuck in the van. We will still have a mobile installation service but we will group visits together to minimise travelling too much, so that may take a little longer to arrange visits. It's the second time I've enquired about Aston Installations services and never had a response. The first was a couple of months ago and the last time was 3 days ago. Even just an acknowledgement they've received the email would be nice.

Can't speak for James except to say that I know he works ungodly hours to keep up on things. If an email fell through, it wasn't that he was ignoring it.

Will this be available for export? Is the install fairly easy?

I'm in New Zealand. I spent too much time in my youth playing with car sounds so not scared of wires.

Hi

I've just had Apple Car play and Bluetooth installed on my 2006 V12 Vanquish S. James and Lenny have been fantasic throughout the process. The installation works really well. I have a hidden knob to operate the Carplay screen (obviously the standard screen is not touch screen), and a simple process to switch across from factory radio/CD to Apple.

Screen resolution is low, again downto the factory screen, other than that its just like any other CarPlay. The whole installation is completely hidden, they have even worked around me having a manual conversion - even less space to work with!

I was hesitant about doing anything to the car, but I can totally recommend astoninstallations. By co-incidence they are just 10 miles away as well, which is an absolute bonus.

You sound delighted - glad you love it. I keep meaning to do the same via James. Where have you hidden the control button/ joystick? I’ve seen some where the owner is happy to have it mounted in plain sight- but I presume the best place is in the tricket box if it’ll fit. Could you share a pic?

Thanks

I have the crystal ashtray option so no room in that location. However, after careful consideration, I had it installed on the dash and have to say that it's a perfect location and so easy to reach, just beyond your left knee.

Hello all!

New owner of a 2014 Vanquish here in the US (Minnesota). The vehicle has this Android Auto/Apple Car Play installation, but I am having trouble connecting my phone to the Android Auto option. I can connect my phone to bluetooth on the unit and it verifies my phone. But when I click Android Auto, it said "please insert Android phone". How do you do that if not via bluetooth? Excited to have this option, but cannot figure out how the unit can see my phone for full functionality. Hoping someone that has it on their car can chime in and help.

Thanks in advance!

My iPhone will only connect to Apple Paly if it is using a wired connection (Vanquish 2018) - it won't won't work on bluetooth. No idea if Android auto is the same but perhaps worth testing to see if a wired connection works.

I'm considering this.
