All warranties on all cars/bikes state that the manufacturer may refuse a warranty claim if the vehicle has not been maintained and serviced according to the schedule. I think the issue here is reasonableness.

Have had email from AM stating that they will honour the warranty on everything but the engine and gear box as a result of the late service,

Hang on, this doesn't make sense.

Lets say I sold my car to the MD 1 month before the scheduled service was due, I can't see that the MD would service that car after 1 month for it then to just sit on the forecourt until it sold, which could be months. So what happens then if the car sits there for another 3 months, at which point it's 3 months overdue a service ? They cannot sell a Timeless car that doesn't come with a warranty. So that leaves 4 options:

1) The rule doesn't apply if the car is sold by a MD.
2) The dealer would in fact service the car after 1 month in line with the schedule (possible but unlikely)
3) The dealer would back date the service when the car sold, which clearly wouldn't happen at a MD as that's fraud.
4) The rules apply and the warranty would not be valid.

All seems a bit of a dogs dinner to me.

On the other hand, whilst it sounds totally ridiculous, I bet Italian and German warranty fairy's would say exactly the same thing.

Simple really, make sure we use our cars and get the service stamps biggrin

@OP - Just find another one chap.

I encountered this question while selecting a car serviced at MD and one that had a few services from very well known indie. The sales person offered £5k discount on the latter immediately. Hope that helps.
