This is my idea of a good looking SUV; much better than almost everything out there except for other RR models. The OH (and myself) really like our Velar. Can't imagine needing or wanting anything else. It would have to be a real looker, number one.
Totally agree with you, that's what I would have.avinalarf said:

As a design exercise it looks pretty good. As a practical, spacious, and usable vehicle I`m less convinced, but I think we`ve already established that these things are not a determining factor for most to buy an SUV. As per the raft of comments previous, Land Rover /Range Rover get`s it right most of the time.CSK1 said:
+1. There's only one Range Rover. All the others have been branded as such for marketing purposes.
Do you mind them being so common ?
Am just back from a four mile round trip to take garden debris to the dump.
Counted 27 Range Rovers, most of them black. Two of those were at the dump!
Only saw one Aston Martin, although few would even count that one, because it is a Vantage in a front garden under a fitted cover.
In France where I live they're not so common.
Lots of Evoque's, Sports, more and more Velar's but very few "proper" Range Rovers.
I agree that if you count the bastardised versions as Range Rovers, there are quite a few on the road.
There isn't much alternative to a Range Rover, a Bentayga is too shouty, a Cullinan looks ridiculous, Urus is another Cayenne based SUV of the Volkswagen group. All those are not true to their brand whereas the Range Rover L405 still is very close to the original concept.
I don't mind them being common, it's a daily driver, a tool that serves many purposes.
It's a great allround vehicle.

Exactly my thoughts. The RR is pretty good for everything. Plenty of space, really comfortable on long journeys and probably a lot cheaper (if that is the right word) than the DBX. It pretty much sits in a niche of its own - which on the other hand is quite big. I would not exchange my RR for anything else. If i need to go faster a take a sportscar, not a 2.5 tonne SUV regardless of how many horsepower it has. Lots of Evoque's, Sports, more and more Velar's but very few "proper" Range Rovers.

Different cars for different markets to those mentioned above
Getting back to RR, lots of repeat owners who I know who use them as their DD have defected from anything JLR in the last year or two as a result of backwards infotainment, poor build quality and poor dealer service. Just repeating their experiences as shared with me. But enough are saying it that it seems it must have some merit
Incidentally people can mock all they want about the importance of carplay (as per the posts on one of the threads) but to some, it's crucial. In car sat nav is now becoming dated when you can put waze through your car FOC via carplay and have up to date maps plus speed camera & traffic info

Jonby - is there any pattern to which cars people are moving to from their RRs? Are they the buyers of the Bentaygas etc? Or are they moving out of SUVs altogether?
Well I'm definitely not an authority on the matter ! :-) But amongst my supercar owning friends, who to be clear are very much NOT the cheshire set I was talking about who I think will love DBX, so the type I do my driving trips with, Le Mans, etc, there is no particular trendA number have gone for teslas especially where they are business owners, because of all the tax breaks. A few seem to have gone for fast german estates and a couple have gone for cayennes. But no one significant trend. Quite a few were talking about taycan this Le Mans and on my european drive last month, but mostly waiting for the lesser versions to come out - a well specced turbo s taycan is 150k+ !
These are typically people with 2 or more supercars, a defender and/or fiat 500 abarth for a runabout and what was the ubiquitous RR as their DD. Have really noticed the last couple of years fairly vociferous negative views on RR. I'm talking about 15 or 20 ppl though, so not a huge sample group
The cheshire set is different. I drive through Hale village every day from home in Bowdon to my office. Q8s, Cayennes/Macans and lots of G Classes are the other popular SUVs, alongside the Urus, bentayga, various RRs and I've just started to notice the odd Cullinan. It's not uncommon for instance to pass 3 or 4 G classes in a 3 mile drive through bowdon and hale each morning, These are all hugely more visible than sports cars, where the most popular ones seem to be astons and mclarens, a reasonable number of Porsches and the odd ferrari & lambo. Alderley Edge & Wilmslow down the road from me have a much larger number of visible supercars than Hale/Bowdon

That's a great looking vehicle.
Created before the SUV was born.
It's a bit of an insult as it hasn't got much to do with a SUV at all!
I think one of those in perfect condition still looks great today.
You think? I believe it was the first real original SUV, before even SUVs were a thing. Or at least, a BAD thing. Created before the SUV was born.
