Tow bar..... just how many people buy a Bentayga or Urus and then pull a caravan FFS.....I guess it won't be a hit with the Travelling community though
Maybe not often caravans, but to displace the FFRR you need to be able to tow (preferably 3.5t)... horse/car/utility trailers, small boats, etc. Probably has something on the back at least once a month. I suspect it’s not as rare a situation as you might think when away from town. What are the chances that Charlotte rides?I’ll gladly run a sporty Aston alongside a FFRR, but no way I’d buy a DBX if it couldn’t replace the Range Rover. Sure, lots of people will spec 4x4s without tow kit, but Porsche/JLR must be full of glee that a possible competitor won’t be able to appeal to at least a portion of their customer base (especially as you’d expect these will be the ones often opting for the larger engines).
You can’t sell volume if you exclude too many potential customers.
How many DBX are Aston looking to sell - 5-7k per annum once fully up to speed?
What is the worldwide market for luxury sporting SUV’s. I doubt we are talking a huge proportion of the overall market so why shouldn’t there be sufficient customers worldwide to want what I am sure will be fantastic cars.

I am on my 7th Range Rover having done almost 60.000 miles in a bit over 3 years with the most recent one. Every time im looking to change it for something else but I always end up with yet another RR. I have the 5.0 SC version and it’s plenty fast enough and a great all round car that does everything very well. I have been looking at the Urus, Bentayga, G-Class, Maser Levante etc but no one is as allround as the RR. It’s a tough act to follow.

If the thing is deemed 'beautiful', they'll sell a lot in the US. People trying to get something more prestigious than a Cayenne, and a lot rarer on the road. I've got a Velar for daily use, and I wouldn't think of replacing it with something like the DBX. The DBX would be an adjunct, saved for evenings out, weekends away, etc. What is the worldwide market for luxury sporting SUV’s. I don't think dbx is aimed against the full-fat range rover or the range rover sport. It's above them in price tag and target.
Just my 2peneth , don’t you think that’s where it should have been aimed - a premium over a top of the range sport and ffrr, instead of trying to create a niche within a niche ,
I drive to work everyday and see 100’s of rrs , ffrr, Porsche, I cannot remember the last time I saw a bentayga
I drive a rrs that has never seen mud, just like a watch that can go 100mtrs in water , it’s nice to know it can !
They are struggling to sell 150k vantage what makes a180k 4x4 an easier sell,
Would I buy one yes if it was a premium over a top spec rr, or once the depreciation has kicked in. As I have said before I don’t think Aston’s are aimed at me anymore they are chasing the golden goose of money no object punters in different global markets , but when you get to a certain level £180k becomes bottom of the range why not go for a Cullan ? Cannot wait for the amr version ! This is pretty much why I am sat with a v12vs that is now a keeper because none of the current line up floats my boat
Vantage - nope
Db11 - looks ok but not for me
DBS- too much money
Vanquish 11 - beautiful but want a newer car tech wise
Dbx - doesn’t pass the make sense test to me

London isn’t the only market in the UK for expensive cars
People are missing the point a little if they think that the current price point of Range Rovers is indicative of what their customers can/will pay. Some are just limited by the vehicle options available. Unless you want an SVR (which has some quite significant styling implications) you can’t really spec a FFRR beyond about £130k. If you don’t like the Bentayga a FFRR/RRS becomes the default choice, with possibly the Cayenne also in the running.
Taking on JLR head to head might not be the smartest when the Range Rover is so accomplished, but offering a product that really outshines it in at least one area whilst still addressing most of the core needs of a 4x4 buyer might well see some make the move. If it fails to address a pretty basic need then some will have no choice but to stick with the current options.
I’m not sure I buy into it being kept for weekends away/evenings out either. That’s what the core AM range is for!
I’d like to be proven wrong and see AM with a success story on their hands but still can’t help but think that they may have limited the appeal a bit too much.

It is Friday!
I am looking forward to having a DBX.
A top model Range Rover is far too cheap for me.
With the DBX, I can really show off my wealth.
I hope they let me have PCP.
(Can you use that one at the Edinburgh Fringe, avinalarf ?)
I haven't got a fringe, for some years I have adopted a shaven head which gives me an edge when dealing with stroppy clients.

Is it just me being a "precious Brit" or is this one of the most patronising posts we have had from across the pond????????????
I must go and tell Lady S that she's not in her right mind and she can't possibly use her RR for towing the boat and trailer
I’m a Brit and live mostly in the US. My Aston is in the UK though. On the East Coast where I am yes it’s true that most Range Rovers and Bentaygas would not get used for horse box duty and you’d likely have a truck for that. I must go and tell Lady S that she's not in her right mind and she can't possibly use her RR for towing the boat and trailer
However I think it’s very common to use Porsche and RR SUVs for outdoor activities mainly bike racks; and I used to put all my kids bikes on the back of the Range Rover. I’d buy a Bentayga if it looked better but would not buy an AM SUV without better dealer network and service for more everyday cars, and would prefer a Macan Turbo and some change for some new bikes to be honest.
Still wish them well and maybe we’ll all be surprised and beat a path to join the queue. It’s a big gamble and huge capitally intensive bet (that increases capacity in a over capacitized industry) for a model pitched against a saturated and wobbly market niche.

an electrically deploying tow bar is not possible which is madness when all the competition offer this
Agree completely and a big mistake if true. It’s an absolute necessity to have this as an option on a 4x4, whether just for bike racks or proper towing! There does seem to be an obsession on here, to have an electric tow bar.
With a vehicle of this type, if customers generally expect the feature, then it seems sensible for it to be included.
AML cannot afford any more self inflicted design errors.
Perhaps a Twitter user should inform Dr. Palmer, because none of us want any lost sales with the DBX project.
Personally, I am not involved with tow bars, because my valet handles the movement of our family horse and boat.

It does have CarPlay for Apple and Android!
Yes it does. As per earlier postIf you’re interested in one (and the specs look impressive, even for someone who isn’t in the market for one , ie me), the dealers do have almost all of the details now it seems. So give them a call...
