Unplugged the trickle charger, took the cover off and took it out of the garage to let it sit in the winter sun for a bit. There's been pretty much constant salt on the roads here (semi rural Derbyshire) so I've hardly used it since before Christmas. It's a crying shame not to be using it, but no point when I can't really go anywhere anyway.
Similar situation in rural Warwickshire, if not quite so extreme down here. My approach over the last few weeks is to wait for the rain to wash the salt off, wipe a finger on the rear bumper of the poor, daily Volvo then, if it doesn't taste salty, it's hammer time. I tend to go out to "buy a paper" (honestly Officer, got to keep the press going - third estate and all that) using a 30-odd mile loop of mixed roads. So far the longest the Vantage has languished is about 10 days.

Remember the wise words of Cowboy and Big Joe:

"We've been polishing these things for two days! If we take them out there in that rain, they'll rust up on us."
"Don't give me a hard time. Get off your ass, and get out there!"

My understanding of a PCP (Personal Contract Purchase) was that it had a ‘Pre Agreed Final Payment to Purchase’ in the contract that is signed at the start. If this is true in your case, and you plan to actually purchase said vehicle at the end of the contract, low mileage should not change the final purchase price.

You may want to confirm this by checking your contract.

You're absolutely right, however as I got mine on the December '18 great deal the balloon payment/guaranteed future value is far too high (I think £96k), whereas the car is worth less than that already, so I was hoping that there might be some options towards the end that don't involve paying the balloon to the finance company (I'm sure there will be others in the same boat at the time). If that's the case I need to do every one of the miles I can on the cheap finance!

Also a risk as I don't know what all of the ex deal cars hitting the market at the same time will do to values (they were all sold November/December 2018), unless they've reserved some space on an empty runway somewhere. It's very much up in the air, if the world is still as uncertain by then as it is now then I'll let it go and make do with my Clio for a bit!

you could risk the car going to auction by finance company and buy it there - y

I wonder if the finance company are prepared to let you take it at lower than balloon if someone (AM?) has underwritten the GFV?

Years ago a friend of mine had one of those in a powder blue metallic and I was delighted when he allowed me to drive it. it was much more reminiscent of the SZ Bentleys than the more modern Astons - a gentleman's club on wheels with buckets of low-down torque that hurled itself bodily at the horizon when prompted by the right pedal.

I'd consider one if (1) I had the money and (2) I was prepared to live with one and offer the required TLC to a vehicle of that type and age. A lovely, lovely car. thumbup

At first casual glance it looks like it had some 'outriggers' fitted ala Living Daylights smile

Loving that V8! Gorgeous

Re the obsessive cleaning, bearing in mind my car doesn’t see bad weather and has done minimal miles it has collected stones!

Like it was designed to trap stones n dirt!

^^^ Are these front or rear pics? (I assume with wheel liner off?). Might need to check my V8 if its a similar setup?

I can answer you question Andy, and also pretend I know something about cars.

The top photograph is of the front suspension. My clue was the rubber squiggly thing which is part of the steering rack, therefore front. You can see all this with the wheel arch liner still in place, because it is above everything visible in the photo. Obviously the road wheel has been removed. That can be a tricky job, because a lightweight alloy wheel with tyre is jolly heavy.

Have you got jacking pads, to make sure your jack is positioned correctly? A wrong location can be disastrous.

The last pics are both the front - the wheel arch liner doesn’t cover the chassis behind the spring / damper where there are several recesses which seem to be very good at collecting stones! Small brush and / compressed air clears them out.

Yes to the correct jacking procedure 👍

Put the newly refurbished wheels on - went from silver to black (to match the black pack)

When I had my silver wheels painted anthracite, I assumed the center caps would be done too, but no. The three weeks it took to get anthracite caps were the longest three weeks... laugh #OCD
