Alright all,
I'm going to see a 63 plate v6s, with 70,000 miles on the clock, is there anything I should be looking out for or listening for with regards to drive train or suspension etc, it's a beautiful car but I don't want to buy the clapped out version.
Cheers Mark

Rattles on start up. Tappet noise when warm. Oil cooler condition that can send water into the oil when it fails. Rusty rear subframe.

The F-Type is prone to rattling noises due to the high compression injectors. That said, check for clunks when switching the engine off. You may also hear a squeak from the rear exhaust when switching the engine off, or when opening/closing the exhaust valves. A bit of grease will solve this, but JLR will insist on a new back box! Also, make sure the diff isn't whining; a known weak spot on the V6S.

I'd recommend a warranty! hehe

What's the significance of the clunk when switching off? The V6S F-Type has caught my eye recently so good to hear of any significant things to watch for - I had heard of the squeaky exhaust though!

Jaguar Service Bulletin for that.

So was this a recall or if it happens do they fix it foc.
I got a price for a replacement dif, £972, which isn't too bad, I was expecting thousands, I was nearly scared off but then I looked at the pictures again and I thought it was worth it.

Mine is currently at a local JLR dealership awaiting a new diff. Apparently it had a replacement diff only 2 years / 13,000 miles ago! It’s not too expensive as a separate item.

I’m on my phone, but as other chap said, clunk can mean supercharger isolator spring. Don’t quote me, but a replacement fitted is over £1000. Closer to £1500.

I wouldn’t let this put you off the car though. The V6S is absolutely fantastic and easily the best sounding V6 engine on the market! All cars have their nuances. Mine has been more reliable (and cheaper to run) than some of my Lotus cars!

I obtained a 24 month Jaguar warranty with mine. I may look to extend when this runs out, depending on price ... or just start a slush fund.

Can you just go into a jag dealership and obtain a warranty?

Alright all, went to buy the f type this morning, car looked good but its performance was poor, engine was ticking quite loudly and there was a definite clunk when I switched off the engine, does that spring stop the supercharger working because I was very disappointed in the performance

Track down a back issue of a Jaguar magazine as I recall an edition which did an in-depth assessment of the F type & my God it made scary reading. The endless list of faults & examples of shoddy build quality was frightening. Rust problems featured especially. It shamed Jaguar
(who let's be honest have never been renown for quality) making me realise the appeal of Japanese & Germanic makes.

I could show you the dealer history of our Golf we sold in January if you think German cars are quality.

Fair but a surprising point.
I spent nearly £1000 replacing the entire A/C system on an 8 year old Mercedes & due to de-lamination all the alloys they had to be replaced after 4 years.
BUT an Audi A3 gave 100% perfect service in 6 years/60k miles & the build quality put Mercedes to shame.
A string of personal & company owned Japanese cars over a 20 year period NEVER EVER gave any serious mechanical issues & the quality range of appointments & driving comfort superior to what the badge snobs assumed.

Thinking of selling my 2015 Ftype as the wife wants a Macan, so fortunately i dont have any of the listed faults. I dont like selling privately but garages are coming back with daft trade in prices considering its not even done 17k.....so probably a good deal for someone.

The one time I tried they offered a lot less than a main dealer did when we weren't even part exchanging, just asking if they'd buy back a car they'd sold to the MiL.

It's worth trying them right now, BCA are desperate for stock, and some of their offers recently have been good.

And people have reported that they've upped their offers by email a week or so later.

Looks great and in the best colour !
I've owned mine 2 yrs this Dec and so far (touching wood as i speak) have had no faults , and it even had a free service left which i didn't know about .

I bought an earlier 2013 model ,V6 S but with just 15k on the clock . It had the spec i wanted and was 'just about' in my price bracket .

Interesting reading comments about German cars and this myth of reliability ,
My brother in law bought a nearly new Porsche Cayman which started using oil at an alarming rate. After numerous trips to the dealership it was diagnosed with a knackered engine and had to have a new one fitted at just 20k miles ! Made my Tuscan look good as that managed 25k wink .
A friend had an Audi R8 ,The previous owner had to have a new gearbox fitted prior to my mate buying it and then after only 12months of ownership the diff went in a big way leaving him stranded and needing recovering.
And another mate had an Audi Q5 at the same time as we had a Freelander 2 . We had 8 years and 65k miles of totally trouble free motoring while his Q5 cost him a fortune ,a blown turbo being one of his bigger expenses. The strange thing is he went and bought another Q5 ! I couldn't understand why as his first one had cost him a packet and as he is an ardent brexeteer i suggested he should maybe look at supporting British business and jobs .

Anyway back to the Jag, i swapped from a Tuscan and almost felt guilty driving such a great, comfortable easy car ,Surely sports cars shouldn't be like this?
Still loving it , sometimes have a pang of regret that i didn't go for a v8 but i console myself with lower tax and service costs smile

Performance wise it feels slower than the Tuscan, but a glance at the speedo tells me its not , Hope you enjoy yours as much. D.
