I've just had to fork out well over £2000 for two new front shock / spring assemblies for my DB9 sports pack. The car has only done 27000 miles. Astonishingly this is the 3rd set it's had. The first ones expired at 14000 miles, both times after leaking oil.

Are they just rubbish or did the first owner (a man in his 70s) thrash it round the roads of Aberdeenshire too much? Most of my driving has been on the Autoroute.

It's even more annoying that you have to purchase the whole assembly, and Aston insist you do both sides at once. Why can't I just buy a pair of the dampers from Bilstein?

Just venting some annoyance...

If they are Bilstein. Then they recondition on site at their depot in Leicester. You need to give them the whole assembly though. I had mine done and it was around £ 100 per side. Hope this helps for the future. Tim

Put up your old ones in classifieds. Someone will be happy to take them off you and get them reconditioned by Bilstein and it’ll help towards the cost outlay.

You can, then just strip and rebuild them. I agree though that they need doing as a pair.

We seem to see loads of failures on these AM shocks. Are they really Bilstein because I have sold hundreds over the years and only ever had one failure after 4 years. Were thay built by Bilstein China?

And what possible excuse do Aston Martin have for only selling them complete with mounts and springs apart from profit?

A true Bilstein, bought from Bilstein as a replacement damper will last 100,000 miles or 20 years IMHO.

I feel your pain, I have a similar issue, but with a cracked coil spring on a DB9.2. Aston will only sell the complete strut at £1200. I'd even consider changing the full set of springs, but there seems to be zero options on the DB9.2, can find springs for DB9.1 and DBS. I've even found a full DBS strut but uncertain if it's compatible with the DB9.2. DId you have some custom suspension work 8Tech? Sorry for the thread hijack.
