I had a brief look at another make forum.
Saw a couple of 'pops' at Porsche owners.
That followed a deeply technical engineering discussion.

Non Porsche owning Aston Martin enthusiasts, might be mildly amused.

As he clicks on the 'What have you done to your Aston today' thread and notices it's all about fitting carbon fibre panels to their engine bay hehe

smile (Not yet fashionable on DB2 models).

Oh, so that now only leaves us considering, whether men driving Aston Martins use perm lotion.

smile

Aston Martin is listed on PH under Other Marques.

One of the other makes in that section is Dacia.
Years ago we can remember, James May teasing excitedly about the anticipated arrival of the Dacia Sandera.
I see that there is now great concern on PH, about a Dacia price increase.

.............................................
Extracts:-

'The top spec car has gone up by £300,
but you now get cruise control as standard and ESC standard across the range.
Nothing like a bit of spin (and a price rise) to gloss over an EU ruling, that says these have to be standard now '

'Didn't take long! The basic car is now £9,495.00, I think that's a £500 increase, more than 5%.
Has completely put me off buying one now.'

'I just don't get it.
I tested one and frankly it was rubbish.
Amazing, I'd rather have a week in the Maldives.'

..................................................

For a replacement set of Aston Martin headlights and tail lights, we could instead have a new Dacia, or a week in the Maldives.

It`s been a bloody fascinating 24hr of Le Mans so far, 5hr 30m to go and the Orange ORT Vantage is in 2nd in class, which is where it started, good effort so far! Currently the Iron Dames all female crew holding first in their 911, which potentially makes a great story.

The Hypercar class has been a revelation with super competitive racing, Ferrari looking good after taking pole in their first top tier entry in 50 years, Toyota with one car left in a solid 2nd (no, just jumped to first) and the Cadillacs 3rd and 4th. Porsche not really in it.
LMP2 has been tight too, I`m happy to see the Duqueine car, (as I know one of the drivers) that started 20th in class after quali issues is holding a tight 3rd in class.
But, it is Le Mans, let`s see how it looks when the flag falls at 4pm...

I have been following the race from afar at intervals.

Strange incident with a Toyota, which I think at the time was the overall leader.
I was watching the on-board camera. There appeared to be slight contact when lapping a group of cars. The on-board showed coming to a halt, then creeping along at slow speed, before halting again.

Looks like Corvette won the GT AM Class with the Aston finishing in 2nd place, 30 seconds behind. Which after 24 hours of racing is quite incredible.

Pay back time.
Do you remember the 2017 race?
Aston Martin beat the Corvette on the last lap to win the class.

I noticed that Paul Dalla Lana was not entered this time.
I see why now.

Team members might be keeping away from Lawrence Stroll today. He is probably not in a good mood.
The US F1 Grand Prix qualifying did not go well.

There is however, some good news for Lance Stroll. His elderly team mate, is only two places ahead this time.

When Las Vegas is mentioned, I am reminded of Mr. Charlie Munger's quotation;

[on the rapid trading of derivatives and stocks]
"It’s like the slaughter of the innocents. It makes the people who run Las Vegas, seem like good people."

A new topic would not have been appropriate for this post, so the Miscellaneous topic it is.

There is a firm mentioned occasionally on this forum with which I have no connection, not even a customer, but some of you may enjoy watching their new video.

Has the time of the 12th February unveiling been announced?

Will it be shown on YouTube?

I could not find anything on the Aston Martin F1 YouTube channel, showing todays unveiling ceremony for the 2024 racing car.
However, one of Andy Palmer's 'new younger wealthy customers has kindly put something together.

https://www.youtube.com/live/hBdK7KQrjoM?feature=s...

I was quite disappointed when he gave his first impression.
"The same as last year init, but with more carbon fibre yo."

I don't think Lawrence Stroll bothered to turn up.
Perhaps too busy composing those querky emails to customers.

Some Aston Martin owners are shall we say, of middle age. It often takes a while to accumulate the necessary spare cash.
A wonderful example of an older motoring enthusiast, still thoroughly enjoying the hobby every day in his 80s, is Mr. Ivan Dutton. In the 1970s he won the British Production Saloon Car Championship more than once. Following that, he established a Bugatti maintenance and restoration business.

Ivan Dutton has a YouTube channel called Shed Racing.

His videos might be of interest to AM enthusiasts, particularly those who like the mechanical aspect of cars, or who want some ideas for a retirement hobby. Yes, that is a Ferrari on the vehicle hoist, just one of Ivan's varied car collection.

Bugatti - hmm, possibly one of the few marques with more bragging rights than Aston Martin.
Fortunately I don't want one!

The old ones which Ivan likes, are not for me either. Far too rustic.
Ivan Dutton bought a Bugatti recently (I think a Type 44) for a friend. His advantage was that It was being sold by a most unlikely establishment, a UK provincial furniture auction.
With Ivan's exceptional Bugatti knowledge and hardly any other buyers involved, it must have been the bargain of the year.
After arriving at his workshop, the car turned out to be even better than he had thought, remarkably original and with all matching numbers.

Good for him.
