On the subject, I like what Porsche is officially offering for classic models. I wonder if AM will be offering something similar, given the fact that an Aston is also a collectible and a "keeper" car, even more than a Porsche. Plus the good profit, it will not be cheap. Maybe just an updated screen unit with all the wireless connections needed.

That’s just a Becker unit with Porsche branding. Jaguar and Land Rover offer the same unit with their branding. Curiously it’s cheaper than the Porsche branded one

Is that map any use in reality? It looks tiny!

No need to worry Richard. The small display on the radio screen can be 'mirrored' to a larger tablet device.
Then use a tablet mount on the ventilation outlet, fit your tablet there and you will then see the map on a much bigger screen.

Hold on, there is a problem.
Oops, think I have gone round in a circle, back to the original problem of ugly 'stuck on' screens.

Really? Because buyers would prefer a very outdated satnav to no satnav?
Yes. I'd rather have the Volvo-based one in mine than nothing. I have the SD card version so I can add the latest cheap Garmin maps and it can get me to places, with turn-by-turn directions, speed limits and camera warnings. For the odd time I need it in the Aston it's very useful and perfectly adequate

In other aspects of my tech life, I tend to always want to have the latest & greatest, but in my cars I always tried to make the best out of what was already there, meaning updating the GPS to the latest maps and then simply using it, without trying to completely revolutionise the system to have the latest tech. I could always use my phone for that, but I also despise having my it mounted in the cabin, so there is that as well. smile

Yeah, it is pretty tiny, but the majority of the information of where you need to go is supposedly given by the audio guidance and visual is just a support.

It is not probably ideal, but I still see it as as very clean and neat solution to take a classic car in the current era. See above, for me, keeping it clean & stock is pretty important.

If an Aston is your first car or your 4th.........it is always a luxury product (if only for transport, people would buy something else), and for products in this price range, you may expect some up to date looks (in design) and tech (in infotainment, transmission, etc).

Even as an Aston Martin fan (got several cars), the latest generation of cars can not convince me to buy a new one. Even the "old" DB9/DBS/V8V dashboard is more clean, and appealing then of the current line up, despite the lack of Carplay/AA. When even non-experts that drive along in these "older" cars, think that your car is newer (in design) than the current cars.......then they really have to do some reworking there in Gaydon.

Ok, I am afraid this thread will go on until 2023............in the mean time, enjoy your cars! smile

Interesting article:- https://techcrunch.com/2022/09/03/aston-martin-is-...

One thing that stands out for me is that Mr Long seems like a sensible chap and seems to talk a lot of sense - hallelujah!!!

I read the article.

Marek Reichman has dreamt up another gem. Aston Martin is no longer 'state of the art', but now, 'far more state of the art'.

They need to be careful with positioning a main touchscreen on the dashboard. Mr. Long probably has lengthy arms (he did when he appeared in the Mr. Men books), to reach a touchscreen fitted forward of the steering wheel, but not everyone is so blessed. Mercedes have moved to a central 'waterfall' touchscreen, therefore reaching it becomes easier, although they also have voice commands available as an alternative.

Yes Jon, i tried to focus on the positives of Mr Long arms (lol) rather than focus on the bizzare comments from the other one :-)

I wonder if the AM focus on infotainment is more to do with MB not allowing them access to their latest infotainment? (Mind you if the s class abundance of touch screen is the direction I am glad if AM dont go that route!)

That does seem logical.

The large centre waterfall touchscreen, does become a very noticeable and dominant feature of the interior, (first seen in the S-Class, then C-Class and recently followed by SL), but for ease of seeing and reaching, I suppose in practice, that is a better location than further away on the dashboard.

It might possibly be an option, but M-Bs with the latest system now have a 'headup' display on the windscreen. The nav for example, actually displays pointers on the windscreen, to the exact roundabout exit to take, which correspond with the road ahead that you are looking at.
At least they have provided a positive, in the touchscreen distraction discussion!

Agreed, taking a common sense approach. We expect, quality and class but also an up to date infotainment. A combination of screens and buttons.

Cars that rely on just screens (new VW golf) are a nightmare to operate and will date quickly.
