I joined AMOC at the Simply Aston Martin Event at Beaulieu. There were plenty joining that day.

Area 1 is where I'm located and of the two events I've attended so far, I have been impressed. So much so that I've thrown my hat in the ring to help organise some events and social evenings. like most clubs, you get more out if you are prepared to put some effort in. I'm aware Area 1 has around 500 members and you can't go to all the events but I feel so many join and do little by way of attendance which to me is a waste.

Heck, so I'm going to be parked next to a Concours-level car at the EARM am I? I'd better get the polish out!

By coincidence I took my Griff 500 to a TVRCC Concours at Duxford - about 2001, and came second.

Great to see you thoroughly enjoying the beast. Mine might be properly fixed by then - only taken 18 months!

Please remember that an AMOC Concours is a very serious affair.
After you arrive, it is quite normal to remove all of your road wheels and then using a fine bristle toothbrush, clean all the tyre tread grooves. Any specs of dirt or dust will instantly lose marks.

Make sure your jacking point location rubbers are in perfect condition. The judges will probably use a mirror to check those.

At present you might think I am joking, but just observe what happens tomorrow.

Keep an eye open to study how well the judges shoes have been polished. Do they maintain their own high standards of presentation, or just expect others to do so? If you spot creases, or grubby marks on the judge white coats, probably best not to mention anything. They won't see the funny side of any flipant comments. - smile

Best of luck in the competition.

As said, clubs only suit some people but I've been an AMOC member for some 15 years and really enjoy the events and tours we've been on. Yes there was some nastiness three years ago which kept the political types foaming at the mouth. At the club level there's now a thriving pre-war group and I'm doing my best for Feltham cars with my monthly ramblings in the mag. There's lots to be enjoyed if you get involved

Thanks for the heads up

I have all new wheel nuts so that’s one mark !

But I hope to get some pointers on how to get to the next level, I think she looks great for a car of 53000 miles and10 years old but I want some other people to give me direction to elevate the car

My rotbox won't go anywhere near an AMOC concours because it's an unrestored 61 year old with 170k on the clock, which I've modified a bit over the years, and cleaning it with a cotton bud is really not my thing. I have judged a class once, many years ago, but once was enough! I salute anyone, and there are several, who can keep a car at Elite level for years, including an unrestored sister car to my own, especially if they DIY rather than pay

I have seen cars arrive for the competition where one of the early priorities is to remove the cling film

Assuming you've read the class guidance, is it clean everywhere? Is it as built? Does everything work?

Good luck tomorrow!

Hopefully it should be 20 marks, one for each new wheel nut.
Another mark for replenishing your tyre inflator sealant. I would lose on that, because mine is time expired and I carry an aerosol of Holts Tyre Sealant. Very non-original. Supposedly, that product can be washed off and the tyre reused, if repairable.

When you have time, I and expect others too, would be interested to hear your description of the Concours judging.
I wonder what features the marks are awarded for? Are shiny tyre sidewalls a plus?
Original stickers on the sun visors perhaps.

I realise that was tongue in cheek but just in case not, there are categories for judging, interior, bodywork, etc. You start with full marks for each category and the judges deduct a point for each thing they don't like. So no, shiny tyre walls won't gain you a point. wink

Very very clean.

A friend of mine stopped when the standrard got so high he was dropped points for not cleaning under the fuses in the fusebox.

This was 20-odd years ago mind..

A friend takes the wheels off to polish them. He’s taken the interior out to clean it. He had the tyres moved to ensure the logos match to the tyre valves. He jacks the car to rotate the wheels so that the tyre valves are at the bottom and the Aston Martin wings on the hubs are horizontal.

But actually, it gives you a nicer place to park.

When arriving at each Concours event, I hope your friend fiited the new (Concours only) set of tyres and wheels.

You cannot expect to win, unless all the tyre tread depths are identical.
Each tyre must have the same manufacturer date code, but of course that is an obvious requirement.

Well we are back, here are a few photos of the car.

We had a great day, we were the last to arrive for the concours, which I was surprised at but got a really good spot on the end.
Our neighbours came from over Birmingham way, had Volcano Red Vanquish S which was spectacular and they were very nice and friendly.

Aston Martin Grange were there, so grabbed me some of the free Aston Martin magazines, and had a look round all the new models.

The judging was great, very nice people, explained where improvements can be made, like I said yesterday, I was not really expecting much, but they were very impressed with the interior, and we actually got over 90 out of 100. No rain, the weather steadily improved and by the afternoon it was beautiful day.

The location was outstanding, with Spitfires taking off in the back ground.

Really well organised, free champagne which the wife took care of and overall a great day out.
