Who carries out your annual MOT test?

Local garage for my mot.
I took my car the the dealership last year for an mot (a bit of a treat taking it to the mothership) and they subsequently managed to snap the handbrake cable and blamed me for not using it (I use it every time I park the car, and I use my car at least once a week all year), sent me home in a merc diesel to return the next day, and charged me a small fortune for the repair. Thanks but no thanks.

Funnily enough I was visiting Paul at Pheonix (Basingstoke) yesterday, I wanted to go have a look at his facilities and perhaps book mine in for a service.
Previously I've used AHM.
The question of MOT came up and having already had the comments from AHM I wondered if Paul had a different view. Basically, his like AHM's view is MOT centres tend to be a little wary of premium cars like AM 's. All the under guards put them off and they are not allowed to remove them.
Pheonix remove the protection before taking it to the MOT centre (the one he uses is at the end of his drive) and then replaces it once the car comes back.
I've booked my car in, I counted around 10 cars in his workshop, he's very busy and has taken on another guy from a local AM dealer who starts at the end of August.

I do all my own work on the car and being an ex-MOT tester have a good idea what to look for. So I take mine to a test station that only does tests with no repair facilities. Been going to them for well over 20 years and never had an issue. I chose not to MOT my own cars as I always felt it was likely to be looked at as suspicious.
Now, has anyone been to Kwik Fit for an MOT?

As per my earlier post, my thoughts exactly. Also, re the other post above, why remove the undertray prior to the MOT if the dealer has supposedly just serviced it? They should find anything worthy of an MOT advisory or failure during service.I also do not MOT my own cars because if I missed/overlooked something myself, a second set of eyes may well find it.

Do you prefer to let your servicing dealer organise it, or do you use an indi?
I'm going to delay my annul service by a month or so and MOT will expire before then. Dont really want to take it to an oily MOT test station.

Why not? All mine just go to the local place, where they get tested the same as they would anywhere else.I'm going to delay my annul service by a month or so and MOT will expire before then. Dont really want to take it to an oily MOT test station.

I use a local independent. They service all my cars. The owners had a V8 Vantage Roadster himself, so they know what to do if anything’s needed.
Actually, I use the dealer for the annual service and then the indi for anything else that’s just automotive “stuff”(air filters, for example).
Why pay premium prices for non-specialist work?

Local MOT garage - they do work on other cars but I have taken all my vehicles there solely for MOT's for many years. I chat to the guys and inspect under the car with them, they discuss any potential issues with me and they are pragmatic and sensible. It's a great annual chance for me to inspect under the cars without grubbing around with axle stands.
