Ignition coils and plugs. ( yeah I know…plugs are a maintenance item… but not at 7000 miles)

At some point I'll post pictures and a lengthy write up with specifics. Still recovering from the hassle. Only got my car back yesterday.

In the end, it got covered but as of last friday I had agreed to pay the approx $5000 repair out of my pocket just to get my car fixed and back.

A quick search for M177 ignition coils and plugs brings those parts to at worst $6-700 US. how they got to $5k installed will surely be entertaining to read. Smells funny.

The dealer is Miller Motorcars in CT. I think they have a good reputation. Since the bill went away before I arrived I didn’t pursue line item costs. My invoice has all zeroes. I do think the service advisor mentioned the coil packs alone were over $1500. I know the plugs were $481 plus tax at one point because I was planning on paying it out of pocket. I also think they mentioned labor was 5-6 hours but that’s not itemized on the invoice either. Labor rate does say $229 but not sure if that is accurate.

My issue is this appears to be a design flaw more than a freak accident. I want to find out who else has had a similar issue. I did see one guy with the DB11 v12 post the same problem on here. Definitely strange given the differences in car design, engine…. I’m pretty sure there is nothing peculiar about my car to make this a one off issue. If I’m having this issue then there are other guys with the new Vantage having this issue. My car is garaged. It’s not obsessively washed. And yes, I do drive it in the rain…didn’t think that was going to be a problem.rolleyes

All very interesting. Obvious Aston Tax on the parts over Merc stuff which is not surprising. I look forward to your dedicated post on the matter.

Not to hijack this thread…

But this is what my 3 1/2 year, 7000 mile garage kept ignition coils and plugs looked like. All eight cylinders are similar.
