I had some very expensive (read £1000’s) worth of stuff thrown in when the car spec was finalised and AM had deleted some items that were indicated as included in the deposit paying brochure - with great support from the dealer.

I had calls for the first year checking all was fine, but chose not to tick any of the ‘keep me interested in or invite me to events that look like or sound like x,y or z’ so I do not therefore hear anything or get sent anything- which suits me fine.

Its a fine line between staying in contact and just pestering someone, if i want to buy I’ll call you.

Long time since buying any Aston Martin so whether the service has improved or deteriorated is not up to me to judge now.

However, purchasing new

V8V 4.7 - Dealer offered nothing. Basically just wanted me to finish payment and drive away
V12V - Ditto, Dealer sold me the car and wanted me to drive away.
Both were very active afterwards to sell the car back to them and buy the latest variant.
Neither offered Factory visits - even after requesting
Neither offered driving training at Millbrook for free or partial cost.

Purchasing/Selling Used
DB4 MkIV - Nick Mee. Totally went out of their way
V8 Volante WS - nick Mee. Totally went out of their way. Freebees, days out etc...

Servicing.
Works Service - Very good, went out of their way with tours, interest etc.
Normal AD Dealers - Useless in terms of effort, actual service or convenience.
Bamford - Did everything I asked/Needed, on-time, on chosen date, same day work etc... Coffee could have been a better brand.

Just a comment on the 'reveal' so many customers look for.
I specifically asked for that NOT to happen. These cloths are often silk or some other satin type product and are almost NEVER EVER washed.
They get dragged onto the floor kicked , trodden on and basically are full of dust and dirt and i do not want that dragged over my lovely paint work.
The dealer of course offered but wanted to check with me as he thought I wouldn't want it as he knew i was particular about my paintwork and detailing smile
As fir other invites contact freebies etc I haven't really heard from the dealer I bought off but another dealership who were looking for a car (& now know I got sorted elsewhere) have been in touch with demo invites and other events so big thumbs up to them

Got a late invite to Goodwood , I’m assuming someone else dropped out.

I did ask about a factory visit if possible but heard nothing back.

And a couple of other really late invites where it’s clear they needed the numbers made up.

A round of golf from Porsche where the person who invited me let slip I was replacing someone who dropped out.

Valued customers ? don’t be silly.

I would make a couple of points.

First, that in my entire automotive experience, the car company which try hardest to make you feel 'part of the family' are Morgan, by a country mile. Barely a weekend goes by when there is not some event taking place, tours of the factory, barbecues, motor sport, all sorts. Morgan are of course, Morgan, which is a bit different.

Second, do I detect a hint of resentment about late 'dropout' invitations? Personally I see those as an opportunity rather than a veiled insult. I make it very clear to companies of whom I am a customer, that I appreciate a bit of carrotting and I am more than happy to receive invitations at the last moment. You don't have to accept, and you can get to some nice events. I know from personal experience that if you are organising corporate hospitality it is useful to have people willing to fill in at the last minute.

I've bought two Astons, one from a main dealer and one from Nick Mee. Both provided good service and have followed up since with emails and invitations to the odd event. I think Nick Mee just wins because he threw in a couple of toy DB5s for my kids smile

My local Morgan dealer is also great however I am 20 years too young to go to their events (I'm 49). I once did a track day at Goodwood with BHM and was called a hooligan by an old git because I was wearing a baseball cap and had the temerity to overtake him.

For some years the only time my local dealer contacts me is to remind me the service and / or MOT is due.
