I have no idea what you would use it for. Too expensive to track, needs a helmet to drive and only in good weather. There are more interesting cars at that level.

Car's like this are never driven or tracked really. They just trundle once or twice around Monaco on a summer's day, or drive around the grounds at the likes of Salon Prive. It's all about owning a rare and beautiful car, and the more expensive it is, the more it appeals to that kind of owner. You would if you could - I know I probably would too smile

Didn't do such a good job with the 911, though
G-series, replaced by 964, then 993, then 996, then 996.2, then 997 (OK I'll give them that), then 997.2, then 991 (What? Let's do the time warp again), 991.2, then back to logic with the 992

On the Boxster they also had a Marty McFly moment in 2012 when they replaced the 987 with the 981. Oh, and in 2016 "Boxster" with 718 (which was actually a 982).

I know, but unlike Aston Martin at least they provide model numbers that people obviously know, or least you do and I do wink
All I know about the new Vantage name was that Reichman said it's not to be called "the Vantage, just Vantage", perhaps the next one will be called Vant.

Just you, I'm afraid. I needed Google to compose that post as Porsche designations, and 911 in particular, confuse the hell out of me: Carrera, Carrera 2 (I get the models with the "4" - I think), Carrera S, Carrera GTS, GT2; GT3; GT2 RS, GT3 RS, Turbo (which used to be the wild one, but apparently is now the luxury one), Turbo S

It's probably just me and I know I'll get into trouble with everyone for this, but the front end resembles a sad cod fish face to me :-)

I have now read the AML press release.
The DBR22 is a concept car. No mention of production numbers or price.

However, some media press reports have suggest a production version may be limited to 10 cars, priced at around £1.5m each.

How long must it take Mr Reichman to compose his speeches? Even managed to include a quote, within a quote.
No mention of the golden rule this time though. - smile

“We set our design systems to “hyper-drive”, pushing the exploration of formalism further and endeavouring to express a future in the here today. Where could we go with the surfaces, proportion and form. Combining this approach with advanced process, technology, and materials, we’ve effectively modernised our racing bloodline and created a new pedigree. DBR22 is a hot-blooded, purebred Aston Martin sports car full of speed, agility and spirit, and a machine that we think will be the basis of many of tomorrow’s icons”.

My favourite has to be, "the here today." No, I don't know either.

Hyper drive should be in single quotation marks because he used double-quotations at the start and end of the piece.

However I agree, it's load of fluff to say nothing.

Agree its ridiculous sounding, but I think many designers/design directors at a similar corporate level are the same in that regard.

I think I see now why he's survived Moers and appears to be a Stroll favourite. I can imagine Stroll Snr listening to that, eyes slightly wide in admiration and one of those cartoon thought bubbles showing him thinking "Oh, wow. I don't understand a word of this and I'm from the world of fashion. The guy must be a genius"

I think it looks pretty cool, the headlights have a little DB5 look to them, the front makes me thing Jag a bit... but I don`t see the attraction in these speedsters generally. I guess you need more unearned income than I can imagine to participate in this kind of thing, so my points are moot, but it`s clearly a collectors piece/200 miles per year car for the well-heeled. Good on AM if they can shift 10 of these, and any other specials they dream up.
If I had a lazy 1.5 mil kicking around I would much prefer a GTO Engineering 250 SWB plus the 600,000 change to splurge on a handful of more recent Astons.

Since my previous comment seems to have disappeared (not a good sign!) and I do not think that it is offensive, I will repeat it.

These £££m Limited Edition 'Concept Models' don't float my boat in any way. Even if I had the money to afford one, I would not be interested. It's not an Aston Martin, it's a Multimatic, and indeed just a (sexy looking) variation on last year's Speedster. Cars in isolation, are, strangely, not that appealing. They need to be real world affordable, have a context, a driver, be used, be out on one of those epic roads. These show cars have none of that. If Aston Martin can't make a car for the up and coming young executive, then they may as well shut up shop.

If it is an indication of the style of things to come, well and good, but I remember Keith Helfet's beautiful (and very similar) Jaguar F Type Concept, circa 2000 I think. That got us precisely nowhere.

Let's see the next DB and Vantage.

I agree. I am a little confused about all these one off or limited edition cars for collectors and those who can afford. That's great for a company that is doing well. But seems AM is hanging on by a string, won't make cars that customers want to buy, but keep putting out a these Halo cars.

They probably sold 10 fewer of the version last year and there have 10 interiors sat around on a dusty shelf. Interior is identical

Wouldn't these types of models have huge margins? I can't imagine it actually cost AM 1.5M to make. Especially if they make 10-12 at that price.

If this is where the direction is, I like it very much. If these specials generate some cash and also double as proof of concept for the updates then even better. The interior is familiar but looks to be incorporating a newer MB infotainment and dash layout, which they already told us was coming. I can def see the current platform as the underpinning of the DBR-22, which is no surprise as it's quite good and we were told that the next Vantage and DB model would be a refresh rather than a whole new car.

Two cars announced.

March 2020 ....... V12 Speedster.
August 2022 ...... DBR22.

Confused. confused Can anyone explain ?
Seems completely obvious to me.

The v12 Speedster based off Vantage. The DBR22 based off DBS. Front end is almost identical. The interior of the DBR22 is much derived from the DBS GT Zagato. That interior had a lot of Vantage influence.

All these people thinking this is some new Vantage are delusional. They hate it when it’s the DBS mostly because it is too expensive but love it when they think it’s a discount in a Vantage. Not to mention It’s clear new Vantage prices are going up. I can here all the whining and complaining already.

The DB10 was a kind of preview for the new vantage.
If this is a kind of preview for the vantage update then blimey, what a massive improvement that will be.
