Afternoon all

After many months of research, reading this forum extensively and some very helpful input from its former owner (another PH'er), I'm delighted to say a dream-come-true occurred recently when I collected my first Aston Martin - a late 2017 V12VSM. I'm still pinching myself.

For those of you who follow the market, the car was sold by Romans International. It had been extremely well cared for, with very low mileage, and had every spec item I was seeking - topped yet further by the AMR performance pack and a full PPF from Topaz. To say I am blown away is a relative understatement, albeit I suspect it will now gain (considerably) in its mileage... smile

I've reached out to one or two of you on here to pass on thanks for the continued sharing of your expertise and willingness to contribute. I've been on PH for many years now and also own a TVR Tuscan - the benefits I found from the forum in my AM search remain as strong as I felt back when I researched and then bought my Tuscan. So for all of those who share willingly, keep on doing what you do as there are many of us who appreciate it - and I intend to repay the favour by doing the same from my experiences of this glorious car (if anyone's' interested!).

The first journey in the car was thankfully a decent 130+ miler, exposing me to London and M-way traffic and then some glorious open roads as the population spots fell away. It evoked strong memories of how I felt back when I first returned home with the Tuscan, including my constant roaring laughter when the exhaust came fully on song. And yes, I "missed" a number of 3rd gears - going straight into 5th - but the need to work at and understand this gearbox was a major part of the appeal.

I'd driven a 6-speed V12 extensively so was well acquainted with the pioneer car; it's therefore been a real pleasure starting to get to know the 7-speed in these early days. I'm genuinely truly impressed by the overall ride quality, seat feel, sheer urgency of pace but equally ease of simply cruising on more bog-standard roads. I already really like the gearbox - a satisfying mechanical feel to it but I'm not having to fight changes. Anyway, enough rambling - genuinely delighted in a laugh-out-loud kind of way and can't wait for the open roads and a major annual Euro road trip. What a privilege.

Welcome Baz. You have a beautiful car.

Interesting that quite a few Aston Martin owners, have purchased after enjoying a TVR.
Similar mechanical concept, involving large capacity N/A engines. You will soon be in a position to tell us about the differences between the cars.

I have occasionally contributed to the New TVR under wraps topic.
Mr. Les Edfar must have eventually realised, that he had taken on more than he anticipated.
Such a shame that he could not have been open about that, instead of stringing people along with a series of production date promises, none of which have been honoured.
After the factory refurbishment was complete, failure to move in then revealed all. The topic moved on to gardening after that.
History has shown that such a project could not work anyway. Perhaps he knew that, but just enjoyed being in the 'limelight'.

The Ineos Grenadier project began at about the same time as the new TVR Griffith. That revealed just how many hundreds of millions is required for a car start-up business, before even delivering the first vehicle.

Enjoy your Aston Martin.

Congratulations with just the teensiest bit of jealousy smile

What a stunning last of its kind machine, we’ll never see the like again. Enjoy.

While he was a few years early, and got some of the reasons wrong, it seems old JC was actually right in the end.

They are certainly special cars.

Really lovely car that congrats …I was over at Romans before Xmas (McLaren shopping but didn’t buy!) and had a look around yours…spec is on point. How were Romans to deal with? I had a V12VS a while back with the SS3 box…such characterful cars and a really special engine… enjoy it to the full!

lovely, thats a very special rare combo what you have now, well done.

ofcourse I think for us LHD people a LHD Aston Vantage with the 7 speed is easier, but I also think just because its a bit 'difficult for a RHD it can also give it more of a occasion.

“And yes, I "missed" a number of 3rd gears - going straight into 5th - but the need to work at and understand this gearbox was a major part of the appeal.”

Don’t worry about changing into 5th instead of 3rd. After a couple of hundred miles the gearbox will become second nature.

What you might find more troubling is having to listen / read the opinions of people who have had a very brief test drive telling you about the idiosyncratic nature of the dog-leg gearbox.

Even worse is having keyboard warriors who have never driven the car lecturing you and everyone else about how bad the gearbox is.

They know nothing. The gearbox is an absolute joy.

Many thanks to all of you for your kind words - much appreciated and can't wait to get driving.

Romans were good to deal with overall and buy/prepare their cars very well - with excellent detail about the car, pictures etc. They made the collection day memorable as well which was a nice touch, and have been very attentive in following up. Overall very much recommended.

One thing I hadn't been aware of - if you buy your vehicle outside of the AM Main dealer network as I did here, then you can't re-activate a (even very recently) lapsed AM warranty until 3 months of ownership is up. Slightly quirky and different to my experiences of buying my Maserati from an independent (where I got an inspection/warranty purchased literally the same day) but there we go.

Random early question - has anyone had a Nextbase 622 dash cam wired into their V12VS and if so, was it a warranty concern/consideration? I've had a quote but it's rather on the toppy side! Welcome to the Aston tax wink

Can't comment on your make of dash cam however, have one of these hard wired in and although car has been in for service and a couple of warranty bits the dealers never mentioned it.
