Db11 replacement
Discussion
[quote=Minglar]I received an email today offering me the chance to register my interest in the new car. The dealer who sent it also said that production of the current car has now stopped and they have received their last ever example.

+1 it was a bit ambiguous - next gen db11?
As for this sentence :- Everyday, we grow closer to meeting the heir to DB11. This is no mere GT. This is the next landmark in a lineage of legends. A monument to modernity, risen from an icon. Reinventing the category we first invented more than 70 years ago.
What do those 44 words actually tell us?

I got the same message, and was as usual deeply impressed with the quality of the messaging. Best Regards

I had a chat with one of my Aston contacts who’s seen the new car, and says the engineering behind it is astounding and it is apparently leagues ahead of the DB11. Oh and according to him it’s definitely going to be DB12.
Edited to add - the upcoming model will not have any type of EV/hybrid power.

No matter how good it is and how good it looks, it will still give some folks on here plenty to find fault with and moan about when it is officially unveiled.I had a chat with one of my Aston contacts who’s seen the new car, and says the engineering behind it is astounding and it is apparently leagues ahead of the DB11. Well not entirely fair.
Think back to 2017, when we initially saw the launch photos of the new Vantage, in Lime Essence.
After that, the first few pages of the topic, were very subdued.

I disagree, i think we have seen people praise the product when they think it looks/sounds/drives as they personally expect it to.
My point above is AM need to cut through the fluffy words and just deliver a great product that resonates with at least 10,000 people worldwide who want/have to buy it and AM have a path back to success.
The sales numbers suggest the comments on here have not been isolated to a small corner of the internet, perhaps, more that people here have voiced what they think (free speech and all that), but the truth is not enough people have spent their hard earned money with AM - so they maybe share the same thoughts?
There are plenty of threads on here that suggest why that may be and we don’t need to open up that old hornets nest again.

I was in an AM MD earlier and was told that they are not getting their DB12 demo until October and it will be next year for first Customer cars. He mentioned figures of 680 from the V8 ... wider front and rear track, but same overall length and wheelbase ... completely re-designed interior with modern tech. Visually he said imagine the DBX707 front on a DB11, sort of DBS with added side gills

They were going so well with the alliteration, first using L, then M, but chickened out with R.
Lucky we did not get P, they could have started with Peter. -
If you want to see the next level of using words for marketing cars, look at the ORA Funky Cat websites.
Perhaps have not heard of that car yet, but you wait. The Chinese are coming. I think they will sell, probably to youngsters, who might understand the strange sentences.
Must go now, need to jack car and rotate wheels to avoid flat spots.

How long has your car been standing - I’ve had many vehicles not moving for months ( probably 5 months at most maybe ) over probably the last 20 years and have yet to suffer a single flat spot.

Do not worry. I am in my own world sometimes.
They used alliteration triples in two consecutive sentences, then I thought there was going to be another, but stopped.
The P refers to the famous alliteration example, Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.
The ORA Funky Cat might have confused you.
Would you believe, that it is a make and model of a car?
The Chinese manufacturers have arrived in the UK and more are on their way.
Expect the UK motor industry needs to watch out.
The ORA Funky Cat website has far more wacky marketing language than Aston Martin.
Take a look at the ORA website. It is probably the future.
As for flat spots, I have had them once. Thought the road had ridges, but some Italian cornering solved the bumpy ride.
Bridgstones in those days.
My car is still in winter hibernation. Each tyre has sat on the same patch of tread for over 3 months, although with 45psi pressures.
Just a precaution, but might be sensible. Not much effort involved.

If that is indeed the future then I will happily stick with the current fleet of made in UK and Germany.
I guess if someone isn’t interested in cars and perhaps lives in a town but needs a car still then that may work for some.
As you say someone has tried hard to make the words as cool /trendy /funky / wacky as possible but what’s the expression about lipstick and pigs.
For all of the critics may say about some of the words Aston marketing uses, I’ve just forgiven Aston.

Yes, certainly a different approach.
I presume they are aiming at young generations, who presumably understand the strange marketing speak.
Lower cost EVs must be a sensible initial market for them at present (almost an empty space) and with the might of the state involved they will probably succeed, to the discomfort of the traditional manufacturers.
With the wave of Chinese manufacturers now heading for the UK (and presumably the EU as well), they might become dominant in the UK car market.

Regarding the wording of AM's DB12 sales pitch, it appears we need to expect the automotive equivalent of royalty. The King is coming!
I agree Jon - the new Ora will be popular with the younger generation. I can see this will be an aspirational first car for many to beg their parents for. An EV for AU$45k with a premium looking interior combined with decent tech and features is impressive: https://www.drive.com.au/reviews/2023-gwm-ora-aust...
