Aston Martins long tradition of having its own exclusively AML engine/s is at an end.

If the AML/M-B technical agreement continues (for a small volume producer, a big financial benefit through development cost savings) then the 4 litre V8 and 3 litre inline 6 engines are currently available.
The M-B inline 6 is already used by AML in the China only DBX, but since the launch announcement, I don't think we have heard any more about that model.

M-B have moved towards much greater use of their 4 cylinder 2 litre engines, even for some AMG models. They produce enormous power for the capacity and although Aston Martin have previously used 4 cylinder engines, probably the only example during the past 70 years has been the Cygnet.

You can see the inline 6 engine as used in China on the configurator by switching the region code in the URL to "CN" for China...

This is the CN link to it:

Honestly a "new" Vantage with a 440+-hp i6 wouldn't be a bad thing especially if it saved some weight. I really wouldn't have a problem with that at all. 440-450 hp is still just fine.

I think however the straight 6 models in the US, particularly GLE 450s etc have received bad press for reliability issues, and forum complaints etc, though I haven't read enough to say what it was. hopefully any issues like this are not carried over to the AML models.

What's the reason for dropping the V12 does anyone know? The usual EUxxx compliance and the cost of getting it done presumably? You'd think it's a major USP gone in this era of doom and gloom and the reason why somebody would spend big on a GT.
This explains it quite well…

With the discontinuation of the spectacular and now, undeservedly short lived Aston Martin engine design number thirty-one (AE31) the twin turbo V12, the company are quietly bringing to an end decades of tradition of deep involvement in designing and developing their own exclusive powertrains.

Agree. Have no interest in buying the AMGV8 even if it is improved significantly over the AMG version. There is always something valuable in creating it yourself, no idea why they want to stop this given the benefits are negligible and do not extend to their premium DB line in any case.

Eagerly awaiting the V12 DB12.

This background was described by Nbgring, on the 'Very interesting discussion ...' topic.

'I am quite sure that production ended 2021 and in 2022 the building was converted into a pilot plant.

The 12-cylinder production numbers were far to small to continue the agreement in this building. Reason is also that the V8 engines for the Vantage, DB11 and DBX are provided by AMG. Furthermore the whole Ford site is converted to battery electric production. The famous production of the Ford-3-cylinder engine (won the engine of the year award a couple of times) in the building just south of AMEP is going to be terminated in two years. Therefore the Aston Martin agreement was terminated.'

Don’t hold your breath. All available evidence is suggesting that there isn’t going to be one.

I have had an email from AM informing me that the official reveal date is 24th May.

“The 24th of May sees the release of the next in line to the bloodline. An icon, risen from an icon, risen from an icon. You won’t want to miss the coronation.”

They really are hyping what is likely to be no more than the usual mid-life refresh

Ya, I really really hope it is stunning inside and out. But will get nauseous reading all of LS's bs about it being all new if it is clearly a DB11 refresh.
Fingers crossed it's epic though... just wish it had a v12

Difficult to know what to say.

When an icon is cubed, does it then become an ultra-luxury icon ?

As for the reference to coronation, perhaps will we see LS suddenly pop up behind King Charles saying, "That crown should be my head".

Expect it to be substantially uprated across the board. “This highly anticipated sports car will break free from the norms of the GT sector,” says Aston, “creating a new category of one celebrating 75 years of Aston Martin’s iconic DB bloodline of exceptional hand-built British sportscars.” Mark your novelty James Bond-themed calendars now: the DB12 will be revealed on 24 May.

Aston Martin chairman Lawrence Stroll was reported as saying the company's next generation of cars would undergo big changes, including a new infotainment system. He wasn't joking, as the setup shown in the photo below gives a good view of the updated interface, which is integrated into an angled center stack that also houses the HVAC controls and other switchgear. Along with rollers to control the temperature for the dual climate zones and fan speed, there's also one for the stereo volume. Surrounding the stubby gear selector and prominent engine start-stop switch are buttons that reveal some of the next-gen DB's features. The list includes heated and ventilated seats, adjustable dampers and exhaust settings, and driver-assistance tech such as a surround-view camera system, lane-keeping assist, and parking sensors.

Looks like a huge improvement on the internal switchgear and screens, but I have to say from that one limited piccy it all looks remarkably like Porsche switchgear. Which wouldn't be so bad its its about the best in the business. Can't imagine they would have let them actually use it, but then again I can't see AM being able to pay for bespoke switchgear again either.

The interior teaser looks promising, very AMG GT/Porsche panamera-esque to my eyes. Shame the glass PNRD buttons have gone in lieu of a stubby gear selector.

Excited to see the whole car, although I did cancel my deposit a few weeks back after the unrelenting amount of issues I have experienced with my DBX707.

Jesus. It is as if they think their potential customers have been lobotomised or are all about twelve years old, so employ similar specimens to write this garbage. Will they ever learn?
