More info:

Definitely Merc V8 only.
Just under 700hp
£185k base. £220-230k properly optioned.
A twin screen, Aston Martin internally developed bespoke and all new infotainment system - unsure how accurate that will turn out to be?
A return to the waterfall centre console
Built to order only.
Revealed at Goodwood FoS and Monaco GP.

Production of the Aston V12 engine in Cologne has already been discontinued, as has production of DB11 and DBS. The only V12 Aston you can buy going forward is Valkyrie.

With nearly 700 hp, they represent a huge leap forward from the 510 hp of the previous version. Are you sure of this number?

They are pushing the db12 into the dbs space, I suspect an 8hp 1000 at play.

685 is less than a DBS, v12 vantage and 707 but still a solid bump over the old db11 and puts it higher than most of the competition. Could be correct!

I couldn't possibly drive to my local pub with only 685 bhp.
There might be a more powerful DBX in the car park.

That is a deal breaker then.

Well, this is just the starting point. Together with a hybrid module the output may increase to 850hp (DBS?). (Guessing 685hp from the V8 and 165hp electric)
The Valhalla should be the top with 800hp from the V8 and 200hp electric?

Maybe the 700 Calinors mentioned is 700 PS? which is 690 bhp.

Call me crazy but I do not think the "Base" DB12 needs close to 700 hp. Maybe 570-600hp, then the "s" or whatever goes up from there.

Have Aston employed Sniff Petrol's Troy Queef?

Yep, sadly it's become a number by which the car is judged. It reminds me of the 'megapixel race' in cameras where makers and punters were obsessing over the number of pixels a camera had, even though after a while it's counter-productive.

In this game of ever increasing numbers, with the tyres shouting, "Too much, I cannot grip", you are holding court at the pub bar, enthusing over your 685bhp.

Oh the humiliation. Worsfold-Smythe has just arrived in his 1,700 bhp Koenigsegg Gemera.

He becomes the winner ..... until next time.

smile

So far I've won every game of Bar Trumps just by saying 'Aston Martin'. Indeed, simply parking it outside is usually sufficient... To contemplate its power would be uncouth; the mere fact it is an Aston Martin is all one needs to know smile

As for Worsfold-Smythe, he should drive a ruddy Bentley, the damn traitor.

Looks to still have the floating pillars and strake integrated with the wheel arch which didn't seem popular on the original, but the face looks better.

If the reported pricing is correct, this or Roma?

Or.... Roma v (new) AM DB12 v (new) Maserati GranTurismo v Bentley Continental GT.

Seems like those four will be cross-shopped now, 2+2 grand tourers, some more sporty/lux than the others.

IMO the Roma looks a step down, still more Maser than Ferrari to me.

Works called me yesterday, first test drives will be July. First deliveries November.

Works are getting a new colour heing introduced, possibly a bit bold in Storm Purple.

Additionally, for those interested exterior mirror is changing to be frameless and reshaped. From some of the more recent images it makes the arms to them look longer, but time will tell.

Works have already had some decline interest owing to the V8 only pathway.

As previously discussed, Aston Martin had little choice about the ending of V12 engine production.
Although Tobias Moers when he was CEO, stated the V12 would continue until at least 2026, it appears that the decision was eventually made by Ford.

1. Ford had earlier ended production of the V8 engine (when AML began buying from Mercedes-Benz), so the remaining total number of engines being built was (to them) very small.
2. The Ford Cologne plant was being converted to purely make electric vehicles.

The engine contract was ended.
