Discussion

I'll add one more thing to the USA discussion.
For me the discussion should not be about the US market itself but the fact that Stroll keeps saying all cars are built for order. Now by saying that he is hiding behind a technicality. US dealers (and I am sure the same goes for some other markets) spec cars and place the order for them, so yes one could count it as an order from AM's POV but IMO that is weak because the car will sit in a dealership until it is sold and the real demand becomes blurry. The order does not come from a customer. Stroll should just be open and clear about that and how different markets works. I would accept it if he would say demand from dealers is high, they have trust in sales etc. But he should stop saying all cars are built to order as it gives the impression each car is specced and ordered by a customer while it is not.
How does this work with Ferrari?

To be fair it is all bks as a load of demos fundamentally end up with very low mileage, technically don't have owners as customers and cannot be described in any format as being built to order. In some cases it is not even a single car, Sevenoaks offered me I believe 5 new Vantages unregistered all wanting homes on various finance offers. I somewhat doubt they were all cancelled orders. Happy new owner of a custom-spec'ed DB12 Coupe here! It's my first Aston, and I'm pretty smitten with it already.
We live in Santa Barbara, CA and were supposed to take delivery on Jan 3rd but the dealer (O'Gara Coach in Beverly Hills) had some PDI issues with the Nav and B&W sound system that needed sorted with remote help from the Gaydon team. The car came the following day and, while it hasn't been totally issue-free (some random fleeting warning lights, a spontaneous media screen reboot, a rattle on the B&W sub grille), I can say that it's an insanely intoxicating piece of machinery on the whole!
Wireless CarPlay does indeed _not_ appear to be an available feature yet, as I have to plug in via USB-C to make the entertainment unit happy.
One that that is *really* working: the way the car looks, both inside and out! AM really knocked it out of the park with this car. I opted for the carbon sport seats, which I was nervous about, but they're sexy as all get-out and have been very comfortable for the handful of 1-ish hour drives I've done in it so far. An added benefit seems to be a smidge more legroom in the back for the kiddos. The motor pulls as hard as you'd expect it to, and sounds the business - albeit a bit quieter than I think it should be. The car is very controllable in the twisties, and sliding it around is a lot of fun. It's stable and controllable but also less superglued to the road than something like a GT3, which is IMO a good trait in terms of street driving enjoyment.
The car is in for a full-body PPF while I'm out of town for a few weeks, and I'm already itching to get back into it and put on some miles!!!
I'll share some pics once I'm out of "new user purgatory." You can also check out some photos/videos on Instagram: @fxnerd
Looking forward to being part of this community!

Well that takes some beating for a first post! It’s at times like these when I wish PH could just incorporate a simple “like” button. Congratulations on your new car. It is superb. A classic colour and interior combination. Very well done. BRM. Congrats on the car. Beautiful spec. Welcome to the forum. We are not too far from you. Will wave if we see you on the road. Can't wait to test drive the DB12. What a lovely DB12. Love the colour shift. Actually I love everything about it.We live in Santa Barbara, CA
I visited Santa Barbara last June when I decided to drive down the Pacific Coast Highway from San Jose down to San Diego, taking 5 days to do it. Very nice place.

Thanks for the very kind and welcoming replies, everyone! I feel very fortunate to have such an epic car in our garage, and to be able to enjoy it in a place like SB.Funny - I was looking for a "like" button on all of your posts, and thought I was just being dense and missing it I'll +1 to that feature request!
BenAstonV12 - if you're ever in SB, lemme know and you're welcome to take it for a spin!

The beauty of Pistonheads is that it's doesn't pretend to be a Facebook look-alike with people just trying to get 'likes'. It's something Ted resisted at the outset and hopefully it will never have. RichB said:

I have noticed on AM Pistonheads, that when people are pleased with a post, they might perhaps say 'good post', or 'I agree', then continue adding to the discussion. All fairly civilised.
Are matters conducted in a different way by Facebook users ?
Do they quickly press the Like button, then rush to send a text to someone sitting near them in the class room? -
Might suffer from thumbsitis before they reach age 12.
Dropped the DBX707 today at my dealer in Monaco today.
They had several DB12’s being prepped for delivery, both coupe and Volante, they truly look amazing in the flesh! The Volante’s top was down exposing this lovely interior. Just WAW!
Dealer said they can’t deliver them in time, so high is the demand. I think AML are on a good path right now, DB12 looks like a winner, revised Vantage looks promising, DBX will have revised interior soon.
Also saw a DBS770 Ultimate in AMR racing green being prepped for delivery, looked amazing.
I hope they launch a new DBS with the V12.
