Apologies to mx stu. Couldn’t resist. smile

So, after seeing the new new Vantage and thinking I’d rather like one, but preferably a roadster but not a first year model my brain somehow decided I needed another Aston.

There’s an app called CarSales here in Australia which is part of my downfall. I have it set up to show alerts on various Astons.

I’ve already got my raw fun car the VH MY18 AMR Vantage. That one can never be sold. In fact, it is so fun that I pretty much stopped driving my BMW M2CS for pure fun. The CS ended up with the job of still being fun but only when it would be a pain to drive a manual, analogue naturally aspirated car.

I’ve also really wanted another roadster. I bought a pristine Z3 during Covid and it was like an escape machine but had since sold it. The climate here is very good for roadsters. It’s only in summer during the day when they aren’t very practical as you get fried.

Then this came up in my feed.

Blimey. This was just after I was banging on about how much better the new new Vantage looks. The more I looked at it the more my mind was completely changed. What a colour. I learnt it is called Sabiro Blue. What a gorgeous interior. It didn’t look remotely Zygon spaceship as some of them do. The dark leather is very dark blue. Cleverly the genius that spec’d it covered the upper dash in that dark loveliness so no reflections.

The car however was advertised in Melbourne. That’s 1000km south of Sydney and has a different motor registry.

As luck would have it, this co-incided with me going down to Melbourne for the F1. So I enquired. Other than having the standard stereo (which is not that a huge problem being a roadster) it had ALL the things.

So I made an appointment and popped into the dealer on the Thursday before F1,

It looked even better in real life. What a colour. Somehow in this spec with the gloss black pack the hunter grille is just sensational. I finally got it. It works. I love it. Marek was clever after all. I also love all the buttons (I despise touch screens). They are all very logical when you look at it. The only major downside. No CarPlay. Urgh. All OEM navigation systems are hellish once you have used Apple Maps or Waze and playing your own music is a chore. But I had already researched that it can be retrofitted so that became a moot point.

So let the negations start. I made a low changeover offer for my CS which caused a cough and loosening of the salesman’s collar. He countered with something quite the opposite.

So I said. OK let me think about.

The final clincher. I blame Berndt Maylander who I was lucky enough to meet and talk to (he really liked his previous Vantage). At one stage the safety car came out. It sounded so ridiculously good compared to the F1 cars that I said to myself right. I have to have it.

So I made another offer once the F1 session was over. Bingo. That one was accepted.

On the Monday I went and had a test drive. What a lovely lovely thing. That was it. Even though the car has 4000km on the clock (2500 miles) and is still under warranty I still said a pre purchase inspection was required by Aston Martin Melbourne. If it passed then its all go.

A day later the service manager from Aston Martin Melbourne rang and we had a good chat. He said it was a great car. So that was it. Onto an enclosed transporter and up to Sydney. Easter slowed things down but I picked it up yesterday.

They have a Sydney partner dealer. So I drove in and we did the changeover, got it registered in NSW etc. etc.

I am somewhat blown away by how versatile and capable this car is. Such an incredibly smooth ride and it still feels fun driving slowly. Stick it in track mode and blast through the gears though and you are launched into space with the most glorious noise (this car has no OPF). The steering and turn in is magnificent. Better than the M2CS. Matt Becker is a genius.

A few more pics once I got it home. I’m a very happy chap.

Living in the UK the Vantage Roadster was never on my wish list (I bought the Coupe), but if the weather here mirrored that
of Oz then that would be the ultimate spec car for me.

Such a gorgeous colour combination with the contrasting tan interior.

Enjoy!!

Congrats, Davil! It’s looks like a great pairing.

The VH Vantage gets under your skin (also have a 2018 AMR), but now that the new-new Vantage is presented, the previous design is somehow mellowing. I’ve also seen several Roadsters in stunning spec.

Hope you enjoy the experience!

I picked this up a couple of weeks ago.

Ming blue but also with a two tone leather interior. Unfortunately I couldn't justify keeping my N420.

I wasn't a fan of the 'new' Vantage when it was launched but agree with the sentiments above; a very comfortable, attractive and capable machine so I am a complete convert.

Note to WarmSince74, 300 miles so far with the roof down all the way smile

Congratulations to Davil; very fortunate to have both in your life.

To the OP

Lovely.

If that's the showroom I think by the Warringah Freeway it used to have an XJ220 which I tracked but could never take the risk of owning in Australia. No Don Law down under.

Enjoy!

Looks good in blue.

I've had two TVR Griffiths together and two Jag X150s, but not two Astons yet.

Beautiful car, I think roadsters, are bit more of a marmite especially in UK.... I think we are sinking this year with amount of rainfall we had in South East.... but neverthe less can see how that would be wicked in AU!!!!

Also can I just ask is that a P1 you have or a classic WRX? Nice to see people with scoobs, I had to let mine go as wife would not allow me to have an aston and a mini and a subaru biggrin too many toys aparently.

Congrats on purchase and its a stunning car!

Congrats Davil! It's a very nice colour combination. I daresay that without the OPF it will sound better than the new gen. I am glad you are very happy!

Congrats, what a great colour, the "new" Roadster has grown on my over the years, I really hope they do a nice job on the latest Vantage when they make the roadster version.

Its a different experience to the coupe, you can hear so much more....but im a biker at heart and like to be in the open air. I drive roof down when its dry regardless of temperature, even at say 5degC you dont feel cold, with heated seats and the heater on full thumbup

Apology accepted.... smile

Absolutely stunning car, congratulations.

I can sympathise on the technology point given my other car is a Tesla. It took me a while to work out the 'infotaintment' systems and I'm still getting my head around streaming spotify via bluetooth for the longer journeys. That being said I'd rather drive the Vantage any day of the week as the growl more than makes up for any music....

Had my roadster out at the weekend for first time in ages. I’d been driving half an hour before I realised the stereo was off! No worries, just enjoyed the sound of it, the wind in your hair and a bit of warmth from the sun on your cheeks (between grey clouds)…. Only 11 c but Lovely !!

Thanks Graze. It is spectacular,

Of course by the power of nature the heavens have opened since I got it. I think you are getting it in QLD too. About 100mm of rain (4”) since the purchase. Jeez.

Indeed. I saw your post. Gorgeous car. Congrats, it’s a lovely spec. They are such different cars. I think they are both as great as each other. And yes. I am very, very lucky, Hard work is one thing but you have to be in the right place at the right time.

Thanks! It’s a MY00 WRX that I have owned since new. AKA Boris the Bullet Dodger. Just turned 24. The car is a weird part of the family. My son told me it was his when he was 5. It shortly will be aside they are somehow banned in NSW for young people. So he has to have a licence for 3 years until he can drive it. The crazy part is that I bought him a Swift Sport until then. Awesome car and quicker than the WRX. Until then I drive the WRX when it rains or when I have to interact with myriad mums in SUVs that are quite frankly terrifyingly distracted and want to crash into you. It’s a great car.

Thanks Alex. So weird how things turn out isn’t it! Somehow seeing the new, new one made me get a new one or is that an old new one? We need a new term for all of this. So much new.
