Hi all, I have a 3 number 3 letter plate and would want to have a smaller number plate on the front of my proposed new vantage purchase (2019). Just wanted to ask if this is possible (hole locations may be wider. Also would I need to remove the front plate holder to enable me to do this?
Thanks in advance.

Surely if you don’t remove the number plate holder, and fit a cut down plate, you’ll have part of the holder showing instead of a blank section of number plate?

A 3x3 plate isn’t much shorter than standard, so you might get away with the fixing points for the number plate holder still working for the plate (assuming AM actually have neat fixing points instead of screwing then randomly in place).

Personal view, but cut down plates can look a bit odd, especially if space has been left for a full size one by the manufacturer.

Yes, well this is my thinking. Wouldn’t want it looking odd. Rear would be fine as this could be strongly Velcro’d. Might just have my plate normal size on the front then rather than messing. Thanks.

I thought most people removed the number plate ‘plinth’ anyway….

I have a shortened plate on the front of my Vantage I reckon it looks OK, but I’ve kept a full-size plate on the rear, otherwise it looks a bit lost.

Were I to do it then yes, the plinth would be removed. I was worried if holes would show on the 2019 versions?
Yours looks good. 👍

I’ve removed the plinth , which is a five minute job , I replaced the front plate with a short one.

The two small holes in the bumper I covered with a small bit of black tape which you can’t see unless really close up.

It is fairly common practice with VH models, for owners to remove the plinth, then attach the registration plate lower down with sticky pads. No visual obstruction then to the traditional grille shape.

I don't think a change of position is realistically possible on 2018 and later models.
Here are two photos of a New Zealand car with a shorter plate.
Cannot see details of the plinth clearly. I wonder if different size plinths are made available for different overseas markets?
If so, perhaps you could obtain the smaller size plinth that you want.

Really easy - remove the plinth and used double sided tape.
I have a smaller plate both front and rear.

Looks good as well. So a 2019 vantage might be different? Holes-wise.

I *think* the front number plate plinth is attached to the mesh rather than to specific holes. All the pictures of the front grille online show it without any fixing points where the plinth goes. On that basis you would either need to modify the bar holding the plinth to the grille or you might be able to remove the plinth and fix your plate directly to the mesh with some 3M tape.

For the later vantage 2 cars you can buy a shorter plinth, think it’s intended for other countries plates. I believe you can order them from Scuderia car parts or Eurospares.

for a 'New' Vantage you can order a Swiss number plate plinth, apologies I can't find the part number in my emails but I got mine from my AD. Be warned though, from memory it's around £120 for a small bit of flimsy plastic!

There's a thread in here about it somewhere, the Swiss plinth is really small so allows you to attach really any size plate you want to it. It screws into the factory mounts and has 2 further screw holes for the plate.

Perfect thank you. And if you find the details, throw them over.

I just bought a second hand plinth from Ebay ( £35 ) and chopped it down. Plate is from Fourdot.

If you're in the UK is that font size legal?

I’d say not.

Definitely not - characters should be 79mm by 50mm.
I had a 3/4 plate on my V8 but got pulled twice by the same plod.
The threat of losing the plate after another pull persuaded me to go legal.
