Hi all,

I'm in the process of deciding on my next car and test drove a DB7 Vantage coupe the other day. Was impressed with everything except the steering which I found very jiggly on B roads and the auto box which isn't my cup of tea. I'd also like a little more exhaust noise. So, I've been considering the GT. I gather all GT's came with the sports exhaust? How is the manual change especially with size 12's? The salesman was doing his best to push the auto but I came away feeling the car would be much nicer in manual form.

On another issue, is it possible to get a third party warranty on a DB7? Aston seems to charge over £2k pa for an inspection and warranty whereas Porsche want £1300 less for the same thing. The other car I've been considering is a 911 Turbo. Chalk and cheese I think and it's clear which is the better car, but not so clear which has the most appeal. The Aston feels more special but I can't put my finger on exactly why.

On price, there seems to be some very strange prices around for the GT. Some under £60k with low mileage and others with higher mileage at mid/high 60's. I gather it's a case of whatever the seller can get due to the cars rarity.

Finally colours. Does anyone have a break down of the colours the GT came in? I wouldn't mind the blue like the show car, or a Skye silver but most around appear to be in darker colours.

Cheers,
Neil

Hi Neil

I have a manual Vantage Volante and despite what the press have said the gearbox is an absolute joy. The sports exhaust is essential whatever variant you buy and if you get one like mine the sound is a glorious V12 howl. The steering on all of them is not as sharp as TVR, Ferrari etc but the overall driving experience and specialness is second to none. One point on the clutch on the GT variant it is somewhat heavier. A friend of mines wife finds it to heavy to use comfortably (may be a good thing?). Pedal space is tight for my size 11's but fine in light weight casual shoes. Hope this helps.
Good luck

Roger
