Was the Lamborghini Muira in the original "Italian Job" a mule or a real car?

The one that was thrown off the cliff?

It was a real shell but the engine (being the "most valuble part" was removed before it was crashed into the bulldozer and pushed down the mountain.

i think that it was also a written off car that was crashed into the bulldozer. iirc they only film the car from one angle as the other side had the damage. they then smashed it up a bit more and slung it down the mountain.

the only muira that was complete (I think) was at the beginning when he was driving over the pass. (does anyone know where that bit was filmed?)

I also heard that both the E-types from the film which were trashed were engineless mules and that Caine's DB4 convertible was a dressed up Lancia Flaminia? :-/

In Die Another Day, two of the real Vanquish's were destroyed-- the only thing different was they had smaller V8s, but other than that they were actually genuine Aston Martins, not mock ups, the DVD behind the scenes showed all the cars with their V12s still in them.

One skidded into an Iceburg and smashed up and im not sure what happened to the second one.

In Die Another Day there were 3 complete V12 factory cars straight off the production line for close up shots / slow moving shots. There were then 4 ex engineering vehicles used for filming on the ice. These were fitted out with V8s, AWD for this purpose. The choice was determined by the fact that this was an off-the-shelf powertrain which fitted (with some mods under the front of the body) - AWD takes quite a bit of space! It also left some room for some of Bond's gizmos.

Impressive thing is that all the "cut & shut" work is done by a team of guys working for the film company - pretty much independently from the manufacturers - both Aston Martin & Jaguar.
