Does any one else find checking the oil a right pain! Must be cold, then run the engine for 20 secs, get out wait 30 secs check. I am never sure if I have run it long enough, waited long enough or too long & the dip stick never seems to give a clear reading at the top! How crucial is the time scale, does it drain out if you wait 10 seconds too long & then you end up over filling it? Mine does appear to be using some oil, so I need to keep an eye on it, come on Aston what about something like Porsches in dash oil level display?!!!!

I`v e mastered it Grant,it really is simple.As you wrote , run for 20 odd seconds, stop engine wait 30 secs and take reading. Mine needed a top up so bought 4 litres of the Castrol RS ( 58 sovs , feck me with the rough end of pineable, that smarted !) I believe it`s 2litres between the two marks on the rod.

I should get a decent car - like a Porsche mate............. Also don't forget that with a pukka dry sump system after a run it's a good idea to shut down the engine with a few revs on the clock rather than from tick over revs.

Cost of Pinapples aside (we all have our foibles!!) they must have seen you coming at £58, RS has now been replaced with Edge Sport & Halfords charge £36, I managed to get the RS for £28 (I LOVE a bargain!)as the branding has changed! Anyway I clearly need to practice my oil checking technique!

Is there anyway we can ban ex-Aston owning individuals from this section of Pistonheads, as certain ones (beginning with P)have clearly lost their way after parting with the automotive jewel we are all still currently enjoying so much. Me thinks Pugsey is going through rehab, a sort of ASTON-COLD TURKEY

Seriously how can you complain about checking the oil when it gives you a chance to admire that beautiful dipstick. Beats a bent piece of wire and plastic knob any day.












Oh,BTW, I'm off to Germany to drive something rear engined which is being launched in the UK quite soon that I believe you have a passing interest in, so life's not too bad. Still think it's 30 - 15 to you though.

Grant, what colour is that. Is it Ghillies Green?
I hope so, that's the colour I've ordered but am a bit nervous as we have no car in that colour in Australia to view.

I believe it is black, I found a DB9 volante in Ghillies, hope this helps.....

That is completely in accurate and should not be relied on, to do a proper check in a Pork you need to do something similar to the AMV8. Its the price you have to pay for having a proper car, and not a German rep-mobile!

Cheeky but fair,..... although with the Turbo there was no dip stick to check, so you had to rely on the in dash display.
Can't be that inaccurate otherwise Porsche would have warranty issues!

Groans. Hells teeth there's more pics. of my b***dy ex car on this thread than anyone elses. I keep coming back in the hope it might start to look ugly. Fat chance. Had a peek at a roadster earlier. V. nice top down. OKish top up (lovely from front,OK from side but not at all sure from rear 3/4) Not a match for coupe though.

I`ve put eight hundred miles on since purchase (19 July), the level was checked on that date and was full, Tuesday just gone I topped up ( with some wince inducing expensive RS , see earlier post) to full again , I estimate I poured one litre in the tank.
