996 better than the AMV8? You must be be maaaaad!
Well, Ford is one of the biggest mass car producer in the World, it's no surprise that the Aston will plummet in price. It's a Ford brand name, Atson Martin doesn't exist anymore.
What a nob
Well, that was a well thought out response wasn't it?
it's what you deserved from a extremely poorly thought out retort... you nob !

Steve, do you feel you are driving around in a 100k Ford ?
Ford? Never heard of 'em.
yes, you remember: they made the GT40 back in the 60s, and the Ford GT a few years back.
Oh yes... that was the one Clarkson just got shot of as it never worked. Nice looking car
The thing is (Shirley) calling Aston a Ford is like calling Man Utd - Michael Glazer, or Loch Ness - Highland Council.
And, in any case, who the hell cares? If Ford can put in the funds to properly road-test and get the new range of Astons working right before production (well nearly right) then thank God for Ford.
I've kinda' had it with the it's not an M6, it's slower than a 911, it'll lose money thing. As I've said before If I wanted a very quick car I would have bought one. If I'd wanted a German car, I would have bought one. I've had lots of both thanks, and this time I fancied the Aston - and am really enjoying it.
And when it loses money (for it will), I will consider it money well spent... For if I was worried about money, I wouldn't have spent £85,000 on an Aston, I would have bought a Nissan Satsuma for £6000 or a bike for £20 and cycled everywhere.

Well, that was a well thought out response wasn't it? The fact is the cars badged "Aston Martin" are manufactured by Ford. I don't have a problem with that, what I do have a problem with is the extortionat price that is charged for them. With their size and production numbers, they shouldn't be anywhere near thr price that is being charged.
Still, there seem to be enough people out there willing to burn their money

Like the car 993TT very nice, but I do think you are being rather antagonistic, Audi owns Lamborghini, VW own Bently, Fiat Maserati, so what if Ford own Aston Martin. This only affects Aston positively, they would never have had the funds & resources to produce the NEW generation of cars (DB9, AMV8 etc) without Fords might. Aston is now making profit for about the first time in it's history that bodes well, DB9 & V8 have met with great approval all round.
The price isn't that different to the 997S, infact a well optioned C4S is very similar money. The Aston is still hand finished, much more expensive materials are used in the making & it is much lower volume.
Of course this has all been said before, you enjoy your 993TT a fabulous car (yes have driven one), but don't underestimate the V8, it is a very special ownership experience & a great driver car, I say that coming out of a 996TT!

Didnt realise till the TVR thread Shady that I wasnt fighting a lonely battle against the idiot. Glad to see somebody else who thinks LA is a muppet. Most of my bile is reserved for when he starts making engineering comments though that bear no relation to anything near reality and all the hallmarks of "Born in Hollywood".

Well if they plummet I'm having one. Plummet away!
All this stuff about 'its a ford' , 'its a vauxhall' etc is rubbish. Reminds me of the carnaptious old gits that state any bentley built after 1931 is not a real bentley because W.O. had sold out to Rolls Royce. What tosh. A nice derby bentley is worth £40k up to 'the limits you set', plus, I'd really like a nice S1 or S2 and I'd really really like a Continental GTC.
I am personally deeply familiar with Jags back to a Mk1 in 1959. I can tell you that the aroma in a new Jag (with veneers) is IDENTICAL to that in all those great cars, Mk2 S-Type 420 etc when they were new. They did not reek of petrol and old leather the way old ones tend to now. If Ford have cunningly engineered that, then God Bless 'em. It shows their commitment to the brand.
Good luck XXXAngelXXX. This confirms my faith in the power of logical reason in the Fatherland. By the way, I bought a Boxster S back in 2001, came and collected it in Stuttgart. Factory tour, lunch in the Directors Restaurant, look at the old VW production building. Excellent. Still have it, its a superb car.

my best friend is Peter Bücheler the managing director of the factory owned Porsche centre - btw you dont look on the *old VW production building* what is called *Werk 1* - you look on the *coachwork building owned by Reutter coachwork before* and the directors restaurant aint bad eh ?
my last Porsche was a 993 cab. back in 1994 - but today everyone has a Porsche here since they give cheap leasing conditions to factory employes..... and the problem is: Porsches are to perfect now - boring..
i buy english since 1995 !
1 Morgan +8
11 Jaguars
1 Aston DB 7 Vantage
1 RRS TDV6 HSE
and now perhaps next week the AM V8 !
PS: All my spelling errorz are COPYRIGHTED !

I bet the RRS TDV6 isnt bad either. I have a Disco 3 TDV6 SE and it is another good car.
I was on a German speaking tour having bought the car through my old mates at the Porsche Zentrum Trier. I probably missed the bit about Werk 1 and only picked up something about the first Beetle. Anyway, the restaurant is indeed excellent and the drinks complimentary which matters to us Scots. The only thing preventing me making an afternoon of it on Porsche Champagne was the fact that I was about to drive off in the new car. What was particularly impressive was that my mother decided to speak to me and rang the main switchboard. The first I knew was when someone came up to the table carrying a telephone, saying 'Its your mother'.
I did a tour of the Aston factory at Newport Pagnell when I was a schoolboy. They were very nice people. I imagine that they still are, and if you go for the V8 I would pick it up in England pay them a visit and drive it back.

Its funny, people don't call Ferrari's £100k Fiat's...
But the fact is, were all petrolheads - and almost all cars depreciate, and ALL cars cost us money - regardless of what we own...
GC summed it up perfectly, HE got the car HE wanted - so who cares who the parent company is, what it'll be worth in a decade, how many tree's it'll kill or whats bigger, better, faster, more german????
