Beritz,

I'll open by saying I don't own one, but have recently been doing a bit of 'shopping', and the DB7 was a contender.

This info was told to me by the salesman in the garage at Chichester, so don't shoot the messenger, okay ?

Services are due at around 7k5 miles, or a year, and would be normally in the order of 600 quid, but could be more depending on what else needs changing (normally less than 1k though).

He said Insurance was normally about 2k5 a year. This shocked me a bit. When I asked my broker it would cost me around 800 quid to add a Vantage to my policy (multicar policy which has 5 on it already).

I am not sure how much it would be for a non franchised service, as the wife throttled back my spending limit, so they are now out of my price again

Cheers,
John.

I just read your last line.
Why stay away from a Porsche ?????

I have a 993, and it will run rings around a DB7 no problem at all.
Have a test drive in one and see what you think.
Better still try to blag a passenger ride in one at a track day.

The DB7 is a Grand Tourer, whereas the 911 (whether 993 or 996) is more of a sports car.

It is also a lifestyle thing.
Bear in mind the DB7 is based on XJS running gear, and is a heavy old car (near on 2 tons).

BTW I had the chance to drive either a 3.2 or a 5.9. I couldn't get comfortable in the earlier 3.2 seats (I am pretty broad) and, well the test for the 5.9 got cancelled as I said above.

Cheers,
John.

I have had an Ie6 and a V12.

The 6 cyl wasnt too expensive, probably a little more than servicing my M3 but everything is done so well you know where the money is going. I ran the V12 as a company car, the tax was huge and after a year i sold it, couldnt justify that amount for a day a week of driving it.

Id like to think expense is balanced out with the experience though. I am even thinking of breaking the bank and getting a GT until the AMV8 comes!
