Hi,

I am struggling to resist a 2006 V8 Vantage and would be grateful if any fellow PH'ers could respond to the following questions, prior to a dealer getting their claws stuck into me!

1. Is the colour white availible (if so it must be super rare!)
2. I can just (!) afford the car, has anyone experienced a lease option with AM - The depeciation is a little alarming (although I appreciate that a £75K car with 2 owners (when I come to sell it) will lose a fair lump) - probably £ 1K a month in depreciation?
3. I am 37 with a clean licence, living in London. Will the insurance be wildly expensive (in excess of £ 2K?)
4. Will women rip my clothes off when I get out? (no response req'd, I need more than a exotic car for that)

Thanks in anticipation.....

1. not off the peg...although Ive seen pics of one in the USA - you would have to buy new and it would be a special order
2. Any dealer can do you a range of finance with a small deposit and baloon in 3 years etc and yes I guess £1K per month could be about right if you use it daily and put 12K+ a year on it
3. Dunno - depends if garaged and exact postcode I guess ...I live in Essex and the V8 is actually cheaper to insure than my TVR or Lotus...yet its worth more than both combined (!) ..Im 37 and pay £1200 fully comp, class 1 business, unlimited miles etc, not garaged, full NCB
4. probably

for the 2008 model year they have 2 whites coming out.

they have previously matched the other manufacturers colours like the lexus white (looks kind of gold)

currently I am deciding between a porsche and a vantage, both would be white, but the Aston has it at present.

I have had an insurance quote (only 34....) and its £1500 and thats the first quote I have had, normally try and bounce the insurars of eachother....

I am in Berkshire

Dont know about the women, but when I see them pass me in London most people seam to give admiring glances.

Without wishing to be rude, what does "just" mean in terms of affording one?

Nothing's ever certain with cars like this, and whilst it should be a good bet and allow one to predict running costs, it might not happen that way 2yrs down the line and could leave you with bills...(even if it behaves itself, tyres will be the thick end of 1k a set and other "consumables" are likely to be chunky).

Guys above have mentioned white. Not sure I'd get one that colour though - think white will go out of fashion very quickly, in which case forget your depreciation estimate! It's high fashion right now, but my guess is its shelf life is 12mths.

Depreciation of 1k per mth as a budget would be wise (perhaps not for white or other choice colours). If it comes in less, great (FWIW, people "in the know" who I've asked reckon one will be worth 42k-49k after 3yrs with 30k miles on. Make of that what you will).

Finance is easy to get. Plenty of places offering it at around the 7.25% mark I believe (though be quick - interest rates could be on the rise).

Insurance - I'm 36, living in London. It's well under 2k (insure three cars for under 2k!).

Great cars (truly great). But if you're concerned/at the bumpstops on the affordability front, I'd think hard about it. They're not exactly rare, will depreciate, and in a year or two's time the affordability front might be significantly better.

interesting that as it concurs with what I was told - 3 years old with 45K on the clock around £38K trade ...yes its a bit of a bummer when you shell out £75k etc ...I guess the only way to improve it, is to drive it more...the longer I keep it and more miles I do the cheaper it gets...well depreciation wise anyway

Gents,

Thanks, what a nice bunch Aston owners are!

I am allowing for running costs on top of the 'just affording' but assume that if I source a dealer supplied one, it would not need any funds spent for 6 months or so, depending on mileage.A cheaper private sale would leave a couple of quid for tyres etc.

I am not a fan of finance, but I also run an Elise (which I have no plans to sell) and a Clio 197 for everyday use.I think that a spare pound or two for the Prodrive mods would be nice.

The sound of the V8 is indeed irresistible - I was feeling like a bit of a saddo listening to various Vantages on youtube!

I will (hopefully)post the pictures soon, but at £1K a month, they are getting more affordable all the time!

Thanks again.

The clips on YouTube cover the sound off about 50%.

I also craved clips before going for a test drive and ownership. And they didn't do it justice at all.

I didn;t think much could match a decat Tubi 355, but this does (albeit in a different manner).

well I am not a owner at present but I have just sold my elise (only have a single garage cry ) would of liked to keep them both, but need a car like this in the garage.

Still thinking of financing part of mine as not to tie up all the cash in the car, anyone know any good asset management comapnies that could help?

I dont even have a garage ....guess it depends on where you live as to whether you need one or not/have enough parking etc

I wouldnt never pay 100% cash for a car of this value...you can do do a lot more with the money as its so cheap to borrow right now, so wouldnt worry about that too much as long as you get a good deal.

Ive just sold my C4S and taken the plunge for an AM Vantage V8. Ive only had the car a couple of weeks - I absolutely love it!
Some points I would offer as a consideration are:
1) This 4.3litre V8 is DEFINATELY more thirsty than Porsche's 3.6litre unit. C4S = @22mpg. AM V8 = <17mpg - having said that you dont buy this vehicle for the
fuel consumption figures!
2) Insurance - The Vantage's alarm/immobilser is NOT Thatcham rated - therefore SOME insurance Co's are not interested - My Porsche WAS insured with
"MORE TH>N" - stating that it was a "Factory fit" immobilisor was not good enough - they wanted the NAME of the immobilser - I could only get a letter of declaration from AM. AM do NOT have a name for the system.
Finally I got insurance from Admiral - 43years old, squeaky clean licence, not garaged - £675
3) As for twanging knicker elastic from 200yds - my wife says I can only dream! But as a friend of mine pointed out - when people see a Porsche they tend to look at the driver - when they see an Aston - they look at the car! The car sounds and looks simply stunning.
4) White colour! Each to their own! Im sure it'll look fanatastic - WHEN it's clean! I've had a white car in the past - and the only colour I found worse to keep clean was Black!

Best of luck with your V8 purchase - you'll LOVE it!
