Just thought I'd say hi to you guys.

Picked up my v8 from Lancasters at Cambridge today, great experience so far with the dealership.

The car is is an 06 in meteorite with piano wood, silver stitching, sat nav, 19"s, cruise, etc, etc, etc.

Already removed fuse 22, car has a lovely note under revs.

Only disappointment was slight rusting on all discs, but dealer has agreed to replace under warranty, so big thumbs up for that.

Plan is to use this as my daily commute. Very pleased so far smile

Sorry meant to ask, has anyone got a cure for stopping the new discs from going the same way, ie laquer, etc ? Seems quite a common problem?

Evening Rob wink

Where on the discs were they rusting?

Surface rust isn't uncommon on brake discs generally, and most of it isn't noticeable.

I wouldn't put anything like lacquer anywhere near them. Wouldn't put *anything* anywhere near them to be honest. Just use them hard!

Hi Andy you old bugger wink

Not on the face of the disc, I think its just where the car has been washed and then parked in a garage whilst the brakes are still wet. Water has settled on the top of the shoulders of the mounting plate and caused rust. The dealer showed me an 07 car where this was happening also.

They told me they have had to rectify a few sets but advised by AM not to laquer them... AM then reckoned to have done a revised version, but dealer reckoned paint was even thinner.

Just a small detail but bugs the hell out of me. Had similar on rears of my old 355, hammerite never looked good smile

Congrats clap on the new toy, I had mine (sadly now gone) via the same dealership, they were simply fantastic on the sales side, glad the same service is continuing, soooooo much better than Porsche!!!
With regards to rust, Pork discs suffer the same thing I wouldn't sweat it unless bad enough to affect disc integrity!!

congrats smile

on the brakes do you mean the calipers are slightly rusty or the brake disc hubs?

of course the face of the discs will rust over time if stood...the hubs will go too eventually...especially if the previous owners have used acidic wheel cleaning stuff like Wonder Wheels etc. I have the hubs on brand new discs rust within weeks after mistakenly using that stuff before.

On most new discs they do have a laquer coating on the hubs, so just make sure to use soap n water or Citrus based wheel cleaner to stop it happening in the future

Hi and thanks smile

Its the hubs, and yes as you say more than likely rusted from acid cleaners...shame they cant give a more durable coating to prevent this though.

Will stick with just soapy water on the new discs and a good drying off after smile

Oi! smile

Seriously, black cars look extremely good when they are very clean. But get them slightly dirty and they don't look anywhere near as good.

Won't have another black car. The various greys do seem to hide dirt better on the Vantage.

F355 - stunning looking car .. was following one thru East Grinstead .. the looks he got was fantastic.

I'm sure you will have as much fun.

Re the discs - when TVR dealer Fernhurst used to service my TVR - they used to spray silver on the unswept area of the disc during the service.

I always thought it a nice touch and also proved to me that they took the wheel off and inspected the brakes.

A agree about AM Cambridge. I spoke with the dealer principal and he opened two hours early just to fit in with my diary. Felt very welcome and was able to p/x my 911 and will be collecting a titanium V8 Vantage on the 22nd.

Pistonheads folks are often quick to criticise dealers (and rightly so) but I think it's only fair to praise where appropriate.

Here, now, Andy - can you do me a deal on that price ;-)
