Me, because ANYTHING I buy I buy knowing the full story before hand. Is there any other way to shell out this kind of money?
[/quote]

Yea but how is it possible to know the full story when it is in the future? My comment was that I felt the pain for the guy, loosing his shirt in such a short space of time. Sure you expect depreciation but not to that level.
Actually just looked your profile and see you are out of the 'heavy kit' Maybe you do have a chrystal ball :-)

I take your point but what I do is take the absolute worst case figures anyone is assuming for whatever car it is - then assume it'll be a lot worse than that! Helps avoid nasty 'suprises'. If I'm still keen to buy it then my deal with myself and the world at large is that I'll enjoy it and then not whinge about it when the time comes to move on. smile

With regards my current position it's simply that there's nothing out there in the launch market that tempts me and is safe enough in terms off running for a few months then getting out with little or no loss. Next big things for me will be California and MK2 GT3 I think - and maybe R8 Convertible.

I have indeed but (not to decry the Ford) I did say the next 'big' things! smile As a few chums on here will know I've always got zillions of forward orders tucked away - those two just seem the most exciting at the mo. and anyway, listing them all might be considered boasting, or boring - or both! smile

If you are ever down on the South Coast, drop me a line as I would love to see it smile

Better get back on track somehow, so erm......, I know, get you order in for the "Lagonda" Rapide for 2012 wink

Often down that way - standing on the glass floor of the Spinnaker Tower only yesterday - and would be happy to show her off.

Rapide? Ordered that a couple of years ago thanks! smile

Ordered on a 'might be coming' basis though I guess ? But now it's official for 2012 and coming out under the old Lagonda badge wink

If you ever do a Goodwood day, let me know smile

So there is no 'how long will it take', because it is already happening in China......
Do we know how many cars have been sold there, and what the order book looks like?

Giving people freebie rides in them is one thing. Selling a couple of thousand and having the infrastructure to support them properly is another. The car's lasting properly on piss poor roads and fuel is another again.
Found out some more on this, there are 38 cars on order so far in China and the car hasn't even been homologated yet.

As with the roads, they are meant to be pretty spot on and the ones driven on whilst there were much better than you would get, for example, in this country.

It was a ride and drive/track driving/dealer training exercise. 11 people sent over from the UK IIRC.

I think that might cover your order book, roads and infrastructure worries smile

ALL my forward orders are initially done on a 'might be happening' basis. Leave it until 'it IS happening' and you're stuck with the herd, wondering how others got in before you. wink

Re Goodwood - wilco. Often fly in there for a bacon sarni. but haven't been on track there for quite a while.

Anyone else had their DB9 valued recently?

My dealer is offering me £30k-£35 less than I paid them a year ago for my DB9, which is now 3 years old and has very low mileage. This is in px against a 1-year old DB9 which by a remarkable coincidence also lost £30k-£35k in the last year.

As of this morning chaps, residuals are irrelevant. There aren't any.

Same thing in many ways.

Just that the ftse 100 dropping so much will knock the confidence of the typical Aston buyer more than Lehmans going bust.

Unless your point is that Lehmans chapter 11 and the failure to stop that happening by central banks and other banks us symtematic of a US and UK economy far worse than we generally know / perceive.

Precisely, and I would say that the next one to go won't get government support. It will therefore take the punters money with it and that is going to be even more painful.

Interesting to note that Autocar (last weeks edition) reported that Aston are considering reduced volume per model variant, while moving slightly upmarket (increasing margins?) & adding new models to their range (Rapide & Lagonda etc)!
Autocar & Aston "have noted the build of used Aston stocks" due to a degree of past oversupply! Clearly its isn't just us paying customers that have noted the situation, glad to see they appear to be on the ball!!

All new AMV8 & DB9 due 2011!!!biggrinwink

Regardless of residuals, there is not really a compelling argument for wanting to exchange my 18.000 miles MY05 DB9 for a new model as the change to the car over the last 3-4 years is minimal.

Grant,

all three dealers I talked to when buying my 4.7 last week told me that Aston were planning to cut UK Vantage supply by 50% for 2009.

We'll see.
