Engine briefly cutting out
Discussion
I've managed to get in a couple of hundred miles since they fitted the new fuel tank. So far, so good - she has not crapped out (yet)..... I'll try to get her out this weekend and put a few more miles on the clock. As an aside, they also replaced a load of the corroded stuff (mirror stalks, wiper arms etc) so she's looking better than she did.
So, we're up to about 700-800 miles on the new fuel tank and no sign of it crapping out. Perhaps it's me but I think the engine picks up a bit better than before, a bit smoother...
I'll keep my fingers crossed that this is the solution I've been waiting for for almost 2 years....!!
Whoami - any news re your car?

The dreaded Emissions Service warning. Mine came on again last week, second time this year so a trip to the dealer to have it reset or maybe a replacement oxygen sensor.
I read a post that the warning can be removed by opening the fuel filler cap and refitting slowly. I tried yesterday, but it didn't make any difference. It may work for you as the fault occured after refuelling??

Anybody with this fault needs to contact AML customer services. If the car has been to a dealer and come back 'no fault found' that's because the diagnostic equipment has, well, not found a fault! If the car isn't faulting at that time there is very little the dealers can do. (Don't always blame the dealers! They put long shifts in for these cars!) If Aston get enough complaints of the same fault, bearing in mind that stalling at a junction and cutting out whilst driving would get logged as two seperate faults, they will put it high up on the 'to do' list. With this fault I reckon they're already working on it though. Keep on at them though. Also, in response to the 'If BMW had this fault it wouldn't last 2 years' comment, that's very true, but their engineering dept probably has more staff than the whole of the Aston factory put together. There's 1200 people in there and that's it! They know what they're doing but everyone wants a V12 Vantage or a Rapide or a DBS Volante so resources get stretched.

Funnily enough this happened to me at the weekend a couple of times, when lifting completely off the the throttle & then re-applying it the car briefly stuttered/hesitated markedly & then picked up again.. hope its not the start of a trend!!
+1i had exactly this (3 times on the Coupe and 1 time on the Roadster) on both of my former V8Vs.....

May I ask if you had any problems with engine cutouts since ? Mine still does it every 100 miles or so.I'll keep my fingers crossed that this is the solution I've been waiting for for almost 2 years....!!

Nope, it has not missed a beat since they replaced the fuel tank. Per my last post, the take-up also seems a bit better as well.
Thanks. I'll ask again in a few months. If it's still ok, my car will undergo the same procedure.Edited by oceantools on Monday 29th June 12:01

It's like driving a totally different car now. I can chuck it into bends reassured that the engine is not going to crap out on me leaving me without those fairly essential items such as steering & brakes....!! If you're in any doubt then I'd be on their case demanding they sort it.
Assuming that exchanging the fuel tank is a rather huge and rare task (had it once done to one of my other cars), I'm a bit worried that other things will go wrong after that (electronical gremlins, rattles, suspension etc.) if you know what I mean..As you mentioned chucking the car into bends, the engine cut outs never happened in such situations with my car. Always have it when crusing and little to no g-force.
So - I took an Aston Martin engineer out for a drive with his laptop plugged into the sockets underneath the steering column. Data is gathered and sent to Gaydon.
Result - AM Engineering in Gaydon instruct the dealer to order a new fuel tank as the "purge valve mechanism" is kaput. New fuel tank - same as oceantools....
To anyone else who has this problem - you MUST get an AM engineer to sit in your car and get the laptop plugged in. To replicate the fault in my car - take a 1/2 full tank car and drive it hard to get it warmed up - burn up 1/4 tank of gas. Then fill the fuel up to the top. Then drive it hard - lots of deceleration, downshifts and hard acceleration.

Just thought I would resurrect this thread and ask if everybody is now cured by having a new fuel tank fitted.
Had my car two weeks now and its done the hesitation upon accelerating thing about 4 times and cut out twice when coming to a standstill at the lights - very frustrating and I can see in the wrong circumstances it could be quite dangerous!
Clearly I need to speak to the dealer tomorrow morning but wanted to know if the fuel tank was the definitive fix!
