does this 'stutter' only show in AMV8 cars or is it across the range ie DB9?

Can't comment on any issues with the rest of the range but with regard to the AMV8 (at least on my cars, both 4.3 previously and now 4.7) that the stutter is sometimes a full on cut-out.

This is more than a little disconcerting (ie dangerous).

I agree with whoami, it's a full cut out. I makes you almost touching the steering wheel with your head.

Very accurate description. It's quite violent; almost like applying the brakes very hard.

My cars in today to investigate the failsafe mode activation. Seems it was triggered after sitting in traffic for an hour.

water temp sensor, knock sensor or lambda sensor? who knows?

Ah so not just a simple misfire and minor drop in revs. Does sound like my old M5 which lost 90% of its power and went into a limp home mode. That was very scary. You ended up head butting the stearing wheel !!!

(We ended up with a good cash compensation from BMW for the stress and months of hassle/lemon car)

I would really fancy an AMV8 but not if it has this engine fault. My nears would'nt stand it a second time around.

So DB9 sounds good .............

I'd wait for ocean to report back on the fix before deciding. The limp-home mode you experienced in the M5 has completely different symptoms to this issue that lasts a nano-second and occurs, for me at least, about once every 500 miles or so.

Sorry about the delay in replying - was sailing down in the Med (as you do!) for a few days.

Apparently, they are going to fit a revised design of fuel tank [in April] as they think this may be the cause of the problem....

Has anybody else had the problem repeat itself in the EXACT same location? Mine has done it (violently) leaving our village [right by the graveyard!] on two occasions and twice in two other places within 25m of each other. That sort of suggests it's related to when i put my foot on the gas.

Very interesting.....

Changing the fuel tank would make sense to me if the fuel pump would catch air instead of fuel under certain circumstances (e.g. high lateral g-force, the reason why race cars do have a catch tank) but the engine cut out occurs even when crusing at low speed and then pushing the throttle, none to little g-force involved there.

I think there is more to it than that. The implication is that it is something to do with the emissions control and how it purges the tank and gets rid of the vapour (or something like that). I'm no expert so I'm not going to try to explain something I don't fully understand.

If it was something really simple then the clever boys and girls at Aston would not have taken almost two years to come up with a solution...!

Mine is in again today for the same problem.

Oceantools - I have informed them of your fuel tank replacement solution so fingers crossed they will look into this.

Also have the emissions service light on which they insist is not linked.

Mmmmm, right.

Well, if you don't actually look at a problem, you don't even find a simple solution wink

@Whoami: Fingers crossed !

Fingers crossed that this fix cures the problem. They really did have their heads buried in the sand and totally denied it's existence....

Let me know how you get on and what they say about the fuel tank. I was told my repair will not happen until April due to their being out of stock of the new tanks....

Well they think they have my car sorted. turns out that it was the throttle body playing up. Not sure if it was a sensor or mechanical issue......

From what the tech told me, it was a mismatch between throttle input and sensor position and something to do with the idle control.....

Hope this helps you guys out there....
