I was looking to trade my e46 M3 in for a v8 later in the year and it's things like this that really put me off aston ownership!
Then again there always going to be some problems on every high performance car, porshe, ferrari, etc
Should just stop myself reading things on here and go with my heart really. laugh

Back on topic, I've just been told that they are changing out the whole wiring harness (25-30 hours) on my car. Previous attempts to isolate the fault failed. They are also changing the ECU.

25-30 hours, OMG eek

I'm not sure if I want them to do this on my car too. With such big surgeries, so many things can go wrong from even more gremlins to scratches to rattles.. you name it.

I really hope this does cure the problem and hold my fingers crossed. Please keep us updated.

So, after leaving a message for Dr Bez to call me back things have started to happen again! The car is being collected next week to have the fuel tank replaced and to have some other niggles sorted (leaky door seals replaced, corroded mirror stalks etc). Hopefully it will be back by next weekend and I can, fianlly, start to get some pleasure out of it rather than ongoing grief. I'll let you know how I get on....

xxxAngelxxx - you're totally missing the point of the thread. Some people will be happy and some will be unhappy. I am just a bit grumpy about having spent around £90k on one V8 that had endless problems (engine crapping out 12 times, electric windows failing, sound system failing, hole in boot letting water in etc) only to part-ex it for another V8 that still has engine problems, leaky doors, serious corrosion issues etc.

I guess whoami is not exactly thrilled to be told his vehicle needs an entire new loom....

I got my car back after the dealer has had it for nearly three weeks.

Might it be worth taking it to Rick and seeing if he can find the fault with his logging suggestion?

Or insisting that the dealer does this and keeps it until it's fixed?

Murph - they said that they had traced the fault using logging equipment (similar to that described previously by Rick). This was what resulted in them apparently changing the whole wiring loom and the ECU.

To be honest after all this fking around, tomorrow's phone call will be to Aston Martin rather than the dealer.

I really could do without this. banghead

Phone up AM in Gaydon and ask for Ulrich Bez.

That'll be the second call on this subject in what - 10 days. He won't take your call but his assistant will.

Good luck!

Angel and Whoami

This is so frustrating just reading this.....I can imagin both of you are livid.

Curbing- when you know that you didnt do it this, we all accept people make errors, things get damaged but they can then get fixed and if they hold their hands us, sorry we did it, we will refurbish and box of chocolates I would be happy.

The wiring and they still havnt fixed it is now bloody stupid. Dont they test drive the thing for a bit. Dont they talk to head office to report up the chain this problem they cant fix.

I'm not sure the dealer can be blamed, if Gaydon does not have a fix for the problem.

However, talked to my dealer about it and they said they have never heard of that problem before confused

Would a car manufactuer not at least look at car forums such as this or AMOC?

I would if was head of any car firm to get real feed back and issues from clients to improve the brand and keep custormers happy.

Perhaps AM should look on Piston heads.

In this case it was the dealer who took the car in. The dealer who did the logging. The dealer who ripped the car apart. The dealer who said they'd fixed it. And therefore the dealer that screwed up when the poor bloke took his car home and it conked again.

The dealer should have tested it more thoroughly (or at all).

Call to AM seems like the plan.

As for any dealer never having heard of this, as mentioned above they should be keeping an eye on these fora.

Actually, they do. I first heard about Piston Heads through a chap who works for AM. smile
