While I am sure Aston could have produced a more powerful upgrade kit to 420bhp+ surely that would have upset a few 4.7 owners knowing that the 4.3 could be upgraded to be more powerful than their car.
...
Not necessarily.

If they were to do a similar kit for the 4.7, you would imagine it possible for them to get up even further (let's say 480bhp ish, if the 4.3 could manage 440bhp with both exhaust and induction mapped/upgraded), but not quite far enough to trump the DB9 on power...

Kind of like an aftermarket "S" kit.

Price them right and they'd sell hundreds of them. But at current levels I'd be surprised if they sell more than a handful.

If it was me, I'd go for the Aston upgrade to 400bhp then look at an aftermarket companies to replace the exhaust and cats

Scuderia systems fit tubi exhausts with a claimed 10bhp gain and replace paramount performance claim that replacement cats will see a 20bhp gain.

Total = 430bhp and one great sounding aston smile

Trev
Somebody's got to actually try it and prove the output first though......

I am not saying that aston couldn't do a similar thing with the 4.7 but it raises the question if the power is attainable in both cars why not deliver it from the off?

It seems as clarkson once said that Aston are then restricting the cars as to not trump the DB9 on performance. Its a similar story with the cayman and the 911. The cayman's chassis could take much more power and would out perform the 911 but it was never going to happen.

Because it leaves something to up-sell us to later.

I've just booked my car in for the power upgrade (and service) to happen next week.
Trouble is, I've just had an operation and I can't drive yet smash Doh!

Just picked my car up from JCT600. Power upgrade engaged!
I can confirm that is noticeably quicker, mainly midrange rather than top end.
I'm not talking 'slam back in the seat, re-arranging internal organs' quicker, but its noticeable.

Having just gone from a 4.3 to a 4.7, I can comfortably say that I doubt there's anything anyone could do to the 4.3 to make it surpass the 4.7, even if peak horsepower were to be matched. The whole way the power is delivered, the quicker throttle reaction and more eager revving, and most particularly, the stonking new torque curve which kicks in hard from low down in the revs, is on another level to my mind!

Its the Aston upgrade, (so still with Aston warranty).

Ok thanks. I was told that the Aston warranty would still be valid with the Prodrive upgrades.

errr... who told you that - a Prodrive dealer per chance ? wink

Aston will say that any engine mods will invalidate their warranty on the engine of course ..and so would I in their shoes...forgetting any remote links with Dave Richards and the Aston race team, the 2 companies are completely seperate and Prodrive mods are aftermarket

saying that, all other aspects of the factory warranty should be unaffected, but one would expect Prodrive to warranty the engine and suspension ...but of course, watch out for "wear and tear" exclusions and lots of buck passing, should you blow the engine at 30K miles LOL

Mine has been on the rollers at Paramount and she was pushing out 398 BHP. The results on the day where there were other Astons varied with one V8 pushing out 369 BHP, so I am thinking mine was pretty accurate. What do you reckon if I get the Aston kit fitted I will get another 20BHP?

Finally got to visit Nicholas Mee - the Prodrive performance parts dealer.

They have a V8 Vantage with all the upgrades completed.

http://www.nicholasmee.co.uk/cardescription.php?id...

I was very impressed with the front aero, wheels and tyres. They really do look good. Much better than in the pictures. Wasn't too keen on the rear aero lip and would probably look to getting it painted.

Still waiting to confirm if Aston will honour the warranty if I get the engine fiddled with. I guess I could stick with the Aston engine upgrade and get all the other bits from Prodrive.

The Prodrive wheels have really grown on me. But I would want the standard aston logo wheel hub.
BTW: as a prodrive and aston dealer, NM should know by heart, wheter aston give you full warranty or not...

the Pirelli Corsa tyres are an option on the OEM wheels...no need to spend a few grand on new ones...unless you just prefer the style of course smile

They won't. I checked this some time ago. I've probably still got the email confirming this. Provdrive provide their own warranty for the engine mods.

Love the look of the Prodrive wheels.

Just wonder what the going rates are for selling the original wheels and tyres.
