I have had the work done. Its going back on the rolling road Tuesday. So I will post the results then. I had sports cats added too. So the results will be interesting compared to TurboMiller. I can say though my car feels quicker in both the mid and top of the range. Its certainly louder.

thats nice to hear - that the factory power pack delivers the goods ...pretty good VFM actually compared to other options out there

have you got standard exhaust/cats still ?

Yep - just the AM upgrade on mine, nothing else.

cool ...so the claims Ive seen of spending £5K on a the upgrade + exhaust etc and ending up close to 420bhp could be pretty reasonable then ....so long as 4.7s seem to be holding their value thats got be a good option for a cheap (ish) upgrade on an earlier car smile

Upgraded 4.3's are worthwhile but still a fair way short of a 4.7.

I'm not sure anyone would argue an uprated 4.3 eclipses the 4.7 - particularly bearing in mind the significant increase in torque from the 4.7. However it is nice that for not huge money you can get a noticeable increase in the performance of the 4.3. Will be interesting to see how Providence1 gets on with the increse from the AM upgrade and the cats. I'd say 420bhp from the 4.3 looks possible with the right modifications.

I've just had a chat with my AD in Cambridge and they have quoted similar figures for a fully authorised Aston upgrade to 425bhp at about the £5k mark all in.

I'm now waiting with baited breath for Provenance1's (?) dyno and post upgrade/cat review!

I've only had the car two weeks so will happily wait a few months before getting anything done, but having had a 400bhp Noble and racing my elise, the Aston certinly didn't feel very quick and responsive to drive, so I'd welcome the upgrades and think it is pretty good VFM considering the marque.

Looking forward to the report asap! smile

It was a surprise to me too.

I have the car going in on Monday so will ask for more details and a written quote then, but they said on the phone, it was the remap, painted plenum, new airboxes and new sports cats all in one package to give 425 ponies. They said it was "under" £5k.

I'll keep you posted.

ahhh...right, so its a pair of sports cats that liberate the extra 25bhp ....seems quite a lot to be honest, when you put a good sports cat on a 2.0L aspirated 4 pot you get about 5 bhp, so I could understand 10bhp gain, but not 25bhp ....the OEM ones on Astons must sure be restrictive LOL wink

..also Id like to ask the companies that make them, how they justify the £800 each for a cat, when other cars are £300 each for the same thing - it is after all, just an off the shelf cell with a couple of flanges welded on, way under £100 of materials even to you and I....I guess its just the "premium brand mark up" you know - just because its an expensive car, you charge 2-3x as much, because the owners can afford it wink

/sorry, just me in cynical mode as usual with the "tuning" industry wink

Around five years ago, I had my humble civictype-r modified....

The TODa manifold we used (admittedly all the other mods were present) gave it a whopping 30 lbft of max torque on a weedy 2 litre....

I reckon these OEM cats are pretty restrivtive in order to satisfy emissions standards...?

The noble I had for 3 years had 350 odd bhp and 350 lb ft from the factory and simply by changing the exhaust and adding freeflow cats, it shot up to a whopping 400+ bhp and 400+ lb ft. A massive improvement just be unrestricting the flow. It also made a huge difference to the throttle response and raised the rev range by about 800 rpm. (turbo car)

So, yes, its no surprise that these cats can have such a marked effect, especially with a proper re-map on the rolling road. (I assume that factory map is just uploaded rather than done specifically to each car) Although at £5k I'd have hoped to get it bespokely mapped on the RR.

IIRC the Noble was about £4000 for the full exhaust system with sports cats and a before and after map session done by the top man at Roush. (the Ford GT guys etc) Also included an upgraded fuel pump with fatter wiring. It was totally totally worth it, and transformed the car.

If this £5k car give even 70% of what that gave then it'd be worth it IMO.

Lets see what P1 thinks when he posts his review! bounce

Greg

ETA. The boost was probably increased to achieve the 50 bhp gain which is obviously not possible on our N/A engines.
