V8 rear brake pads replacement cost?
Discussion
the pads for the these cost with the warning indicator wires approx £275.00 yes there are easy to change. the stated labour time is about an hour. there are no pattern parts genuine although there are some race alternatives but price is slightly more, the V8 Vantage share the same brakes as the DB9. £400.00 is about the norm for the dealer, An Aston Martin specialist could save about £100 on dealer fitted prices.
once the pad low warning comes on you are left with approximately 15% pad left, which works out with normal driving around 1800 miles (rear pads, fronts get a bit more) before damaging the discs, i would not recommend more than a few hundred miles due to the pad material being quite thin there is a possibility of the pad material breaking up under heavy braking,
Aston recommend replacement once the pads are 60% or more worn.

Cheers Rick.
Will give you a buzz when they're ready - what sort of notice do you normally need to do pads all round (including handbrake if needed)?
Aston also recommend early replacement of tyres. But my experience on both tyres and brakes is that the only difference waiting makes is to your wallet!

Based on some of Rick's as always very informative responses, can anyone (Rick?) confirm some of the percentages mentioned in early posts in terms of the mm brake pad "friction material" levels.
I ask as my recently purchased V8 Vantage is quoted by the dealer as having 5mm brake pad remaining at the front and 4.5mm at the back. In normal driving (and I know, this is a how long is a piece of string type question), but any idea how many miles I could expect these to last before needing replacement?

it is quite simple to work out how many miles are left on the pads,
front pads have 8mm of frictional brake material the warning will be illuminated with 1.5mm of pad left, I work on 6mm usable pad,
the easiest way is to take of 2mm off what is left so 3 mm pads will leave you with 1 mm realistically of usable pad, knowing you have used 5mm divide your mileage that pads has done by the 5mm used and this will give you how many miles that mm will give you, assuming you drive approximately the same all the time,
if your car has done 15000 miles on these pads dive by 5mm used pad gives 3000 miles per mm,
front pad spec 8mm frictional 6mm usable
rear pads spec 7mm frictional 5mm usable,
rear pads wear faster as the traction control works on the rear brakes,
Aston recommended replacement approx 3mm left front and rear
running down to the wear indicators is perfectly safe for normal driving, for track days or such as alpine driving or extended road trips where more heat is going to be generated I would agree with Aston on there recommendation,
in reference to squeaks and squeals we are finding the cleaning products used on the wheels is an contributing factor and are asking people with the complaint after normal rectification has failed as replacing the pads does stop the problem as to what they use to try to do a list of products to keep clear of
