OK. Its about that time, 4 months on, that I start to think about the next motor. I've had the Aston DBS four months - only managed 2000 miles - but driven nearly every day and loved every second (fuse 22 out within 6 miles of driving).

Thing is - I have absolutely no interest in another car. This machine is perfect! I cannot think of another I want. Only the F599 comes to mind, but its ugly, too wide, hard ride, and ugly.

I looked at an Alfa 8C last week, as one passed me the week before in London and it looked absolutely beautiful and somehow sounded even better than the DBS, but at 170k, just not worth it for a V8 masser in a nice dress.

The DBS appears to be a keeper. Aston must realise they have a masterpiece on their hands... I love it every bit as much as the day I bought it.

Highly recommended! Do it if considering...

I love my Aston DBS! It is a perfect machine!

However, my chrimbo present is to spend the entire morning around the Top Gear track with tuition (maybe Stig) and 6 timed laps... (Great wifey 1.0)

Awesome! Ok, they said no to the Aston DBS (1000 pound tires and a bust clutch) - but I will do it in a Lotus Elise! I am aiming for 1 min 30 seconds...

What do you think??

Wow nice and the entire morning ! I don't understand why they won't allow the DBS though?

Totally agree. Ive just spent a day with Aston's own touchtronic DBS (as mine is at the factory for a service), and the gearbox is absolutely fantastic. It changes quicker than my Challenge Stradale which is saying something. Never have I fallen for a car like the DBS. I drive it everywhere in the track setting with the stiffer damper set up though - its far better with it on.
Aston Martin have a winner on their hands with this car.

What's it like as a GT? Does the TT2 really enhance that side of things?

Once you've driven the Elise you won't want to get back in the DBS wink

Lucky begger on both counts, enjoy your day smile

So what you are saying is if you are buying a DBS it's probably worth having the TT box?

I have indeed. I always liked Astons, but complained they were too slow. I hadn't reckoned with what it actually feels like to drive one or to own one. I still think that the V8V and DB9 need more power. The DBS is what the DB9 should be.

I love my DB9 and it is an exciting, fast car, but it niggles slightly that it would lose (not by much, but still) to my four door saloon on a drag strip or around the Ring.

I waited a long time for an LP640 with a manual box since I'm not a fan of paddleshifts as a rule since in my opinion they date quickly - new technology etc etc.
Having said that the DBS touchtronic is so quick on the uptake its a revelation compared to say something like the Gallardo Superleggera which is a great car but let down by a clonky egear and stop and go brakes. The Ferrari 430 Scuderia & 360 CS are the benchmark IMHO for paddleshifts/egear/touchtronic whatever. But the DBS is up there with them. And those sports seats are the best anywhere. Oh and never ever have I had such positive reaction from people everywhere. Not that it really matters of course, but I think the term is 'elegance personified'. I could rabbit on all day but what a fabulous machine

For some reason most folk seem generally positive about Astons and Lambos and generally negative about Ferraris and Porsches.

Never quite worked that one out but I have my theories. They're not very welcome anywhere near the Porsche forums though! I guess the truth hurts.

I'm also a huge DBS (and DB9) fan. I just can't tire of looking at them. So much classier and prettier than any modern Ferrari. Interestingly Ferraris in Italy are widely considered a bit brash. Astons are considered much more classy. Well they are aren't they?

I just don't get this auto thing however. I have honestly tried to get it, but I just don't. I wouldn't pay more money (a lot more money) to have a (30kg heavier!) auto instead of a manual on a sports car. On a Rolls, fine, in fact a manual would be very inappropriate. But when it's time to drive don't ever tell me it's more involving. More playstation perhaps but however good an auto box can be it's all about compromise and 90% of the time it'll be driven in 'D'.

I'm personally very grateful that Aston Martin are one of the few companies who still offer a manual, even though they don't sell many, it's still really nice to have the option if you want it. Long may it last. However I totally understand that to sell more DBSs they had to offer the touchtronic too.

I was close to getting a DBS but in the end decided to keep my DB9 and get an AMV8 roadster which my g/f uses mostly, but i do enjoy it. I agree, both the DB9 and AMV8 need a bit more power, but i still think they are superb cars and i love them.

I will see how prices go next year and might swap mine for one, or at the moment i have the option to buy a friends Ferrari 360 for what i think is a small amount of money for the car. I have never had a Ferrari so i am very tempted by this current offer.
