Advice on the DB7 V12 Vantage please.

I have a friend who is looking to buy one. He has a budget between £25-£30,000.
He has heard storys regarding reliability. He has asked me to post here so he can gather as much info as possible before he commits himself. Could any owners give advice on what to look for and what to avoid,and if there are any proble areas to be aware of.I would just like to say thanks in advance for any help given.

First thing to look for is an impeccable, fully documented service history, either by AM dealers or well-regarded independent AM specialists. Lots of service/maintenance invoices are good, for you to see what's been done and when. There are a lot of ropey DB7's out there, where buyers could "just" afford to buy, but not to keep them properly serviced. Avoid them like the plague.

With that kind of budget your friend should get a good 'un.
I see you are based in London, not knowing where your mate is based I would recommend Chiltern Aston. I am currently having dealings with them and they are first class and very professional.

I have had mine for over 7 years, so plenty of time to have a considered view. Generally well maintained cars should be trouble free for the vast majority of the time.
Suspension needs regular skilled attention when serviced: It's not expensive but it makes an enormous difference to handling if bushes aren't replaced when they need to be.
Check the aircon works properly on any car you drive - it should be ice cold on max - if it isn't it costs £2k to replace (dash out job).
Engine's seem pretty indestructible but misfire if coils and plugs aren't in A1 condition - again quite (but not cripplingly) expensive to fix.
As someone noted above the population of DB7s is in the process of splitting in two: Cars that have been expensively maintained by people who can afford to look after them properly and a growing number of cars bought because they were "cheap" and maintained accordingly. Of course telling the difference isn't as straight forward as looking at the paintwork and the service record.
There are now far fewer DB7s than DB9/V8Vs which might augur well for the very long term values, but as someone who bought his for £80k and has spent another £47k looking after and improving it over the years, buy one as a fun car not an investment!

Can anyone give me some figures on sevicing costs??. At the moment my mate runs a CLS 63 AMG. But he has the benefit of having a Mercedes mechanic that does work on the side.
The Merc has been totally reliable for him.He knows he will have to use a specialist for servicing work on the Aston. But he is looking to build up a picture of servicing costs before he commits himself.
