Hi folks,

time for a big decision. I've loved my vantage which I've owned from new. It's an 07 plate car with only 8800 miles in showroom condition. I just got a quote off my dealer for 51k trade in.

Problem is will I regret it. Our new jag xf is a fantasticallly accomplished tourer, but it is rather dull to drive. Thing is , I barely get to use the vantage now I have young baby too.

I almost made my mind up yesterday until I was passed by a succession of astons, all the same colour as my own.

Should I take this as a divine sign from above or do I chop it in as a deposit for a family home.....

I just don't know what to do!!!!

The thing is only you know!

Playing devils advocate biggrin

1/ You can sell the Vantage & the XF & get a DB9, which has the rear seats for your little one, so you can have the Aston experience everyday wink.

2/ If you need most of the £51k for the house deposit, get either an £11k low mileage 986 Boxster S, or early £20k 987 Boxster S as a reliable car you can still use for fun weekend blasts roof down. You need something to sweeten the bitter pill of being Astonless!

3/ Keep the car & buy a smaller house, extra space only adds clutter biggrinbiggrinbiggrin.

Hehe,

I can always rely on you m8 wink

one option was to be astonlesd for around 18-24 months then pickup a v8 or db9 that's taken the initial depreciation hit. I might be able to return to the marque with a newer spec car for little extra dosh?

Is the 51k against some other car?

That seems like a decent offer to me depending on the details...

Only you know if you'll miss it too much. But if you really need something with more seats, you'll undoubtedly find yourself using it less and less I would think (and you haven't used it much as it is! Mine's the same age and has 25k+ miles on it).

I recently traded in my civic type-r daily driver for a jag xf diesel. The 51k is the buy back figure. Still a good deal?

The dealer just buys back from you in straight cash?

It'd be easier money than selling privately and would seem about the mark for an 07.

Whilst values have firmed up of late (it seems), they're only ever going to go one way over time. Makes no sense keeping it if you're not using.

Civic Type R and Aston to an XF diesel? Remind me never to have kids!

How much Sanatogen does 51k buy biggrin

So 'the XF is rather dull to drive'....pipe and slippers, I told you so wink

I see the problem is not the Aston at all, it's you. You must take more time out for yourself and drive the Aston to work every day, surely you don't take the wife and little one there do you?

See...problem solved...next! smile

You do not, repeat not, want to be putting good money into real estate at this present time. This economic downturn has years to run. Unemployment and underemployment are continuing to rise, which will kill any green shoots stone dead. Now then, you don't need to be getting rid of a perfectly good Aston do you wink

Well I've just agreed the deal with grange brentwood. Car is going in the following saturday.

I feel v v sad today. I waited for this car for two years ever since the concept was announced and it drove me to work as hard as possible for it. After owning it for as long I've waited, it's going to a new home......

Guess there is a lot of sentiment attached to that car...

My wife, a non-petrolhead is over the moon about it. She suggests "we get one of those practical 4 seater sports cars like a Golf GTi".

God i feel murderous and suicidal in equal measure frown

Tell me I won't regret it for the next 5 years....

If any of you want an absolutely cherished Vantage with 8k mile on the clock, you'll find it over there. Please treat her well *sob*

Agreed its a sad loss..... frown what many "wives" (or husbands!) don't realise is its more than a car, rather an extension of part of you wink but as hard as it is (& we have all been there parting with a favourite steed that we want to keep) to part, once gone you will feel.......
1/ A sense of release at not worrying about her (the car that is) the insurance, tax, petrol, where you park her, car thieves, speed traps.. etc yes
2/ Over time the urge will build & you will find another to bond with & do you know what often it will be a stronger experience than the first. Bottom line is you can always buy another one thumbup

So look forward with excitement at what the future may hold.... or keep the car & change the wife (only joking) bowtie

I feel for you stanwan and can remember being there when a certain Lotus 'had' to go. Whilst I agree with ukdennis's assessment of the housing market right now, i.e. still a fair way to drop, if needs must then the only recommendation I can make is to take as many photos of her as possible before she departs and be happy in the knowledge that you lived the dream that so many fail to achieve. Personally though, if my wife says do one thing I generally do the opposite....keeps her on her toes smile

Thanks guys

The orignal plan was to sell it on anyway but the Market got all scared last year. So I eventually resigned to the idea of keeping it for good. I wonder if I would have been better off not asking for a valuation!!

I've never had a ferrari so I might just pickup a f430 once prices fall following the introduction of the 458....

If your missus doesn't appreciate the Aston, she'd hate a Ferrari. Properly hate it.

You might get away with a 612, but I doubt it.

Maser (QP or GT) might be something you could get under the radar, but to be honest if her idea of sporty is a Golf GTI, you're screwed frown
