I need to know why us Aston owners don't appear to be a very friendly bunch when out and about.

On my motorbikes you always dip your helmet at another rider.

In my Elise (or any Lotus) you always get a light flash or wave.

In a Morgan VW Beetle etc etc its the same, so why is it that after 2 months of Aston ownership and having driven past 5 or 6 other Astons on the road, I have had not a single response to my wave or flash??

Is it just me? It is because my Aston is black? rolleyeswink

All us Surrey based owners are a friendly bunch. Its normally a low key hand wave from the wheel be you a classic owner or new generation owner.

ah, this is a tricky one...

My driving instructor drummed into my head that flashing lights is just plain wrong - that you are creating a confusing story for other road users. So I never do that....

But I'll normally wave or smile (or overtake you) :-)

Come round Norf Lahndahn and mines the Titanium Silver V8V

Dunno - I don't flash, wave, toot or make any contact with X5 drivers when I'm driving my 'other' car....!! Maybe I might have waved when Aston's were pretty exclusive but now there are so many of them it does not seem so appropriate these days ;-)

Ha indeed!

I passed my first other vantage yesterday in town, going the other way on a slow but traffic free road in the city centre at say 20mph. I waved at him but all I got back was a rather odd look from the chap as if he was asking "what the hell is up with that guy?".

I guess not every owner is an enthusiast! frown

Thats the kind of reaction I get.

I don't actually ever flash for reasons mentioned in the post above (they'd probably assume there was a speed camera van up the road!), but I don't get whats wrong with a little hand wave. Its part of the fun of it all.

Can't agree with there being "too many of us" either, there are many thousands more lotus drivers and I get a wave from every single other lotus driver when I'm in my elise! (sometimes a little too OTT actually, but maybe my elise is a bit more noticable and "known" when its on the road!) smile

I'll give the customary low-key hand wave from the wheel .... although I've also notices a lack of similar gestures from other owners in the East Midlands.

I see most Astons driving on the motorway in the opposite direction, so it's pretty impossible to acknowlege them. I did follow a black V8V southbound on the A34 the other day and it ended in a race...it was great! smile

No harm in saying hello IMO.

Yer I find about 50% wave back. I guess it depends on the owner, if they are an enthusiast and not an Aston snob they will wave. If they bought an Aston cos it's 'trendy' or look down on cheaper or newer Astons (for some reason) then not. It does not seem to be model specific either, some DB5 drivers have a good wave, some ignore, some Vanq drivers wave some ignore..'save the wave' that is what I'd say..although some times things are a little busy behind the wheel and closing speeds are too fast to make the time..

Not in my part of Surrey!
Nod at other bikes at weekends (when I am on the bike not in the car)
Used to wave at other S2000 owners when I had previously (well until they cam e as common as MX-5) smile
Had the Vantage 4 months and don't get flashes / waves / signals from any other Aston. Came to the conclusion its either not the done thing for Aston owners or its uncool

I got stuck in traffic with an identical black v8v facing me. I said "nice car mate" and he just looked really grumpy.

I'll generally wave. And give it full beans when near by as it's always good to hear another one smile

Still enjoy the understated very British wave to fellow Aston owners - keep the tradition its part of the difference between an Aston and a boring but efficient European machine

I think common is perhaps a little exaggerated, perhaps down in the counties there are a lot more but not exactly ford focus numbers. Up here on the sunny west coast of Scotland though a DB9 is still a very rare site.

PS

Always give a wave or thumbs up.

Perhaps its just tough to wave in time with a closing speed of over 300 mph???

Actually, in two months with my car I have yet to pass another one, so I haven't had to make the decision. I spent a long time in Vettes and the Vette Wave has been around forever, but I didn't know there was an "Aston Wave".

I always flash and/or wave to fellow Aston Martins - classic or modern.
Although, in 5 months of ownership, I haven't come across too many.
Was followed by a Tungsten Silver V8V up Walters Road in Swansea recently - he flashed and I waved as he turned off in Sketty.
If it was anyone on here - apologies for not letting you out of the side road, but I didn't see you until I was right on top of you so too late to stop for you!!! My plate's .... ARF
