Just looked at the sat nav info, it seems I need sepaate discs for France and then Germany/Switzerland/Italy.
Off to Stelvio and the mountain passes this weekend amd home via the Italian lakes. Any top tips re the sat nav, apart from take the Tom Tom. In a 08 Roadster so all the roof down stuff could see me soaked. Thinking of shoving in the Switzerland /Italy disc and seeing what happens. Anyone with experience of this?

I think you just need the Europe disc. With my DB9 I drove all the way to Rome and back taking in all the mountain passes such as Stelvio not needing to play disc jockey once so check again and safe driving.

And another piece of advice. Make sure that you fill/top-up your tank every time you pass a petrol station before attack these moutain routes as there aren't many in 3000m altitude.

and: leave early in the morning for the most interesting drives in order not to be stuck behind a fleet of caravans - it is so busy at this time of year.

Just take the TomTom!!

Drove to Spain earlier in the year, had the Aston SatNav and the TomTom going at the same time. Stopped using the Aston one after the first couple of hours, when it told me I was driving across a field but I was on a dual carriageway.
Voice and instructions on the Astons are just rubbish compared to the TomTom and the way it keeps changing scale around about 85MPH is truly annoying.
Turned off sound and stuck the TomTom to the screen of the in car SatNav. Made a really hand mounting place for a decent satnav (TomTom)
TomTom was £39.95 for full European mapping software thats on my phone and actually works easily, intuitively and is full mapping - Aston does not do all minor roads in Europe

Have fun on the trip - hope it doesn't rain so you can have the roof down
