Brilliant idea.

One other consideration - will your insurance co get the arse? Shows thieves what you have stored in there.

from a security point of view, anybody watching will see all keys are removed from the cars before we go home and secured, also with the eyes of the world watching can only put people off as anybody in the workshop would be seen, we also have motion detection so any movement triggers a report directly to my phone in the evenings, this on top of ram bars, monitored alarm system plus regular drive bys by a local security firm, i think the web cams would be a plus rather than a negative, but a valid point,

I see three choices
1, leave the cams open to everyone all the time
2, leave the cams public during the working day and private in the evenings
3, have the cams private via secure access just for customers when there cars are in the workshop

what would your choice be and why ?

Great, will I be able to see Vickie pick the phone up to give me a price on a o/S/f sill to bulkhead bracket for my vanquish?

As long as no security measures are visible and each customer dosnt object i cant see the problem in day and night..

however if a time delay of say 1week for example was used then no one would know what cars were in at any perticular time and viewers still get the same benifits (poss real time for customers )

on the other hand If any one could view real time 24/7 then it would be like having 24 hr servalance without the expence and would be intruders will also know this possible security advantage.

Rick,

Leave the cams on during public/trading hours only, it sounds like you've enough security measures in place when no one's around.

I assume you need some background lighting to show what's in the workshop. Do you really want to be paying for power all night long?

Is it possible to hold the last image on the website just before you shut up shot, i.e. lights blaring, people present, so that it's shown all night long as it wont change until you open up in the morning?

After all 'times is hard', you've got overheads to keep a lid on and you don't want some sandle wearing lentil muncher accusing you of not having 'green credentials' if you've got the lights blaring all night. (IMHO)

DB7 pilot don't worry the lights are turned out at night, and reference your earlier post you are welcome to pop in anytime, i have not got a 7 in with a sports exhaust when i have i will let you know so that you can have a listen,

it will probably be best to leave the cams open in the day, and closed at night, if masking the numberplate is not enough for some customers, and they do not wish for there car to be shown, on these days the cams will be private,

may take a picture of an empty workshop to display in the evenings, or a picture with a few fords vauxhalls etc wink

Never mind the Fords & Vauxhalls - make it a garage full of Prius's - no self respecting car thief is going to want to nick one of those!!!! hehe

Cams are a good idea Rick - nice touch.

smileblimey I am not turning them on to private again, tune into DMS tv next week, we have the setting up of a vanquish asm system, The fitting of a DB9 sportspack including a sports exhaust for starters, unfortunately hanging the apprentice from the rafters had to be cut from the schedule as there was a risk of him landing on one of the cars,

Just an idea Rick, and you may already do it. You are a bit off the beaten track for me (live in Scotland) but I would very much like to use you for any work done on my car. Would imagine that a lot of other people are in the same position. Could you (or do you) organize a collection and drop of service. If you done this on a Diary basis and came up to Scotland with a transporter once every three months then you could have a collection point that we turn up to with our cars and they are then shipped down to you, this I will I imagine greatly reduce the transport cost and make it a very viable option for us and no doubt other in London for example.
