My DB9 requires a service next week......my understanding is that the dealer can replace the oil with either Castrol Edge 0-40w or Mobil 1 0-40w.....the main dealer wants to charge 20.67 including VAT per litre. I have just purchased the oil from Costco for £5.75 per litre.....thats a 380% mark up !!Interestingly they want to put 12 litres into my car when it only takes 10.8 according to the handbook.....they also want to charge me £23.00 per litre for super dot 4 brake fluid which I have just purchased for £4.50 thats a 450% mark up

Am I being tight or do fello AM owners feel that I have good reason to feel I am having the p*ss taken out of me grumpy

  • all* marques charge daft money for fluids.
Supply them and they'll usually accept them (if not, go elsewhere).

Other things to always tell them prior to service:

- do not check the washer reservoir as you filled it already.
- do not check tyre pressures. You did it already.
- do not change the wiper blades. You'll do it when necessary.

what dealer is that? !

the dealer I used to use (before I moved up North again) Grange, in Brentwood, Essex well they used to charge me LESS for the correct oil than what I could buy it myself for, with discount from Opieoils ...so I didnt complain

They also used to be within a fiver per tyre of the cheapest on-line price I could find

So other than the £100 ph labour, there were quite reasonable as far as AM dealers go ....the next nearest dealer was 50% more expensive on labour alone frown

so I guess the moral is to shop around or use a specialist like DMS in Derby

That is taking the Micheal in a big way. 10-15% mark up on consumables is acceptable. Vote with your wallett and boycott them.nono

U can make major savings for example brake pads front and rear I once had service do them cost me £750, I do this myself and fit yellow stuff cost £200. I also supply my own oil as well. So I tend to have the basic service done and have any othercwork done out side in the real world

You save a fortune

Don't Aston fit Pagid pads?

I tried EBC pads on my 7 a while ago and was summarily unimpressed (they crumbled after not very long - and I'm light on brakes).

Hi Dave.....I hate main dealers, they are all a bunch of crooks.......I would love to use Rick at DMS who charges £650 all in, but the same main dealer has supplied and serviced the car from new and I belive that for providence sake, when I come to sell the car that has some value and reassurance to a non knowlegable AM buyer.

The dealer started off at £1350.00 but I have got the price down to £900 all in....also they will lend me a car for the day

yeah, Pagids are AM fit, and about £220 a pair if you buy them aftermarket yourself

I used to use them in my Elise too after a similar experience with EBCs

IF you had cared to check with the dealer you would have found out that DB9's now have a modified dipstick fitted that requires an extra litre of oil to be put in.but hey, lets have a whinge instead
well thats fine ....so explain to me why all previous services have only charged for 11 litres......perhaps they were just being kind....and it still dosn't explain the stupid mark up on lubricants

No future buyer will insist on 250 quid being knocked off for you having the brakes done at an indie. Hell, they might give you 500 more for recommending a good indie to them!

Besides, are you really likely to sell privately? Or back to the supplying dealer?

Tell your main to get to 700 quid or it's no dice smile

Its not a brake change Murph its a full service and telling a large international public company "£700 quid or it's no dice" probably wouldn't go down too well !!!! and I have never sold a car back to a main dealer....always sell privatly smile
