Hi All, I was wondering what bulbs fit into the interior lights within the Aston Martin DB9 06, I was thiking of changing them to the new led based bulbs as they are brighter... Looks a bit dull in there when getting in at night.

Questions.

1. Will a LED Bulb affect the canbus system in anyway (Warnings). It takes less power such as 1w

2.Fitting type of bulbs.. How to change bulbs.. such as ones above rear view mirror. and on back quarters interior.

I know we're not supposed to link to other forums, but take a look at a forum about '6speed' vehicles which is found 'online'. Think there's quite a long thread in there in the AM section regarding LED replacement of OE lights. One of the guys wrote up a long and detailed set of instructions and quite a few have done it.

Its easy to do.

You need s pair of directional W5W wedge bulbs and a pair of diffuse ones for the footwells.

I replaced the map lights by taking off the rear view mirror and poking the lamp covers out from behind.

The footwell lights require a bit of manual dexterity to fit.....

I couldn't figure out how to open up the housings for the rear license plat lamps though. Even the dealership couldn't figure them out either.

Maybe rick can tell us how to get at those ones perhaps..?

the old way to replace the number plate bulbs was to remove the bumper, A special tool was released in 2008 to allow removal of the lamp with out removing the bumper, your dealer should have this tool and know how to use it, trying to remove the lamp by using such as a screwdriver will only crack or damage the lamp, a right angled pick can be used, on one side of the lamp there is a small oblong cut out, the pick is pushed into here to push in a little leg then pull down, it will make a noise as the lamp is released this is normal, i can post some pictures next week if required,

I would be grateful if you could provide some pictorial guidance on this. I tried all sorts of methods without much success.

to remove the number plate lamp from the V8Vantage, you will require a tool like this

this is inserted into the small oblong cut out in the lamp as shown in this image to the left, of the lamp,

push towards the centre of the lamp and lever the lamp down against the bumper, there will be a noise like you are breaking the lamp as it releases this is perfectly normal,

refitting insert the side without the cut out first a firm push and all back to normal

Just done mine.

Map lights are a big improvement. Perhaps too bright!

Footwell and boot lights not so much of an improvement.

Will see if I can get more powerful ones for the boot as there's plenty of space in the housing for a bigger bulb.

Am using the white ones of these in the map lights:

Also tried some of these, but they're not as good:

Boot bulbs I bought from

http://www.ultimatemods.co.uk/

But their site seems to be buggered at the minute (6 LED 43mm festoon for the boot - will try something with more LEDs though. 37mm festoon for the door lights).

No links with the companies linked to other than I bought the kit from their (cheapest way I could find of ordering. Most places are in the US and postage adds a lot to the cheap bulb prices).

Did Mine on Saturday DB9 2006 Volante. It took "8" , 501/ W5W Bulbs. There are no festoons to be seen in the cabin or boot. The light is amazing and matches the dash lights.

I am also going to retro-fit a directional led light under the rear view mirror too so that the centre console is lit up nice. I suppose i can fit them in the door handle areas aswell.

x2 Map Lights
x2 Rear Cabin Lights
x2 Boot Lights

W5W Bulbs all round .. Push in Type

I bought them from here for £1.75 each ..

Can anyone provide a working link to the LED bulbs I would need to get for a 2005 DB9, ideally in the UK.
Thanks

Probably would be quicker (and cheaper) to fabricate one from an old probe or screw driver from your tool box.
Looks a pretty straightforward piece of kit to me.

All you need is a small flat blade screwdriver wink

This is so simple to do and well worth every £

No special tools needed. Best to use a plastic trim tool, but a tiny flat-head screwdriver does just as well.
