In my mind there is no way that Aston would drop the DB series, it is the center point of the company and has been since day 1, it really would be suicide.
Sorry to be pedantic, but Aston did drop the DB series for two decades - otherwise my 1989 V8 Vantage would have been a DB7 and confusingly my DB7 would have been a DB8, except that American's would have been confused so it would have had to be a DB9, and so on.

Secondly, Aston Martin has committed suicide on more than one occasion in the past; Perhaps they should have an SUV kamakaze or 4X4 lazarus version?

Nice discussion. I am with the DB9 will be around for ages camp, there is and always will be a market for it. For the DB9 buyer, the Rapide is too big, DBS too 'sporty', V8V is too 'Sports car', V12V is too 'mental'. The DB9 is very traditional Aston and I love it for that. I am not a 'traditional' Aston buyer that is why I have the V8V and covet the V12V...

Reading the press about the Rapide, they seem to have done a very good job with it, and I would expect it will do well against the competition, but for me £130k is best spent on a sports car for 'fun' times and family duties is best done in something cheaper, estate, big diesel with a BMW badge on it.

I am with the general consensus, the Rapide is a 4 door saloon car the DB9 is a GT car, the DBS is too 'ballsy' for a lot of Aston owners and dont like the pumped up look. Aston would be mental to drop the DB9 for nothing less than another DB....10.....11 or whatever how they work the numbers?

If I wanted a quick saloon car I would get a Jaguar XFR and buy a secondhand DB9 with the change

I hope the DB9 is not dropped, and hopefully a facelift such as is being done to the V8 Vantage will ensue, My concern is that now Aston will have 5 models in production not counting volantes, with one of the main investors being given time to sort out there affairs and trying to sell 20% of there shares, does not bode well I know this is nothing new for Aston, so if resources and more cuts need to be made the likely one not to put more development into would be the DB9, and now with the V12 vantage, DBS, and Rapide all of which will draw some customers away from the DB9 will it be commercially viable to continue it,

Agreed, but the name is built on the DB series somewhat, it is only since its reintroduction at DB7 that the company has once again been able to reestablish its self as one of the greats. They where a bit lost in the wilderness during the Vantage years (albeit with a multitude of issues) but the DB7/9 have saved there arse and brought back the classic identity.

In this instance, when you said something incorrect as a fact, it needs correcting. Well pedanting, I say...!

Aston need to get their heads down and work on little incremental improvements to the cars they have - a la porsche . If you have the look why change it - just keep improving it with better technology

or as the quote goes do not fix what is not broken, ref improvements, satnav, door lock issue, plus various bits and pieces, all minor and not really taking much development and as shown by this thread the DB9 is very much a current part of Aston history and development, and as stated by a customer today has a design which is timeless and instantly recognisable as an Aston Martin.
